NAIROBI, Kenya — The EU's anti-piracy force says that Somali pirates have again attacked the Maersk Alabama, the U.S.-flagged ship hijacked last spring.

The EU Naval Force says pirates fired automatic weapons at the ship, but that guards on board the craft fired back and thwarted Tuesday's attack.

They need to arm merchant ships with hidden M2 "Ma Deuce" or M242 25 mm Bushmaster installations like a British World War I Q-ship. When the pirate ship comes close, open fire and that little pirate ship will suffer a LOT of damage, making Somali pirates think twice about attempting such an attack in the future again.

I like the idea. If by

that little pirate ship will suffer a LOT of damage

you mean "shredded and sunk with the loss of all aboard" I like it even better.

It’s already been done, and YOU can join in!

I LIKE it!

Especially this rail mounted mini-gun.

That'll ruin a pirate's day real quick.

Fox News

The captain of a chemical tanker who was shot when his ship was hijacked earlier this week has died, Sky News reported a Somali pirate as saying.

“The captain of the chemical tanker died last night from gunshot wounds he got during the hijack,” a pirate who gave his name as Mohamed said.

“The ship is headed for Haradheere with the dead captain.”

The a Virgin-Islands owned chemical tanker MV Theresa VIII was hijacked earlier this week with its 28 North Korean crew members.

The ship was sailing to the Kenyan port of Mombasa, but had turned around after being seized near the Indian Ocean archipelago.

Why can't our American ships blow these damn Mohammed pirates out of the water?

Just place a couple of Vulcan gun turrets at the front, rear and sides of each boat.

It's not rocket science! Just blast the bastards.

Since one of the very first missions of the US Marines was to eradicate muslim pirates (The Shores of Tripoli!), I would LOVE to see the Lyin’ King give OUR MARINES carte blanche to go in there for a repeat performance.

We could add another verse to the Marine Hymn!

As if he would actually DO something like that. right.

“I suppose they didn’t want to disclose what kind of weapons the ship has on board. I was hoping they would say they were blowing the pirate boats to smithereens.”

Technically, one might say that THE SHIP has no weapons as it is a long standing tradition for ship crews to be unarmed - Ship owners want their Captain to finish his mission and not be the subject of a mutiny.

This is why the ship owner has hired Guards to protect the ship - they are not part of the crew nor, really part of the ship, per se -— if you understand my subtle point.

I do hope with you that the guards have some kick-ass firepower!

Could some mariner please tell us why ships keep transiting through these pirate infested waters? Is there not a way around?

They're headed to or from the Suez Canal. The alternative is to sail all the way around Africa, which adds several months to the round trip time.

‘Cause the pirates now a range measured in thousands of miles. You can’t go around them any more without practically crossing the Pacific.

I wonder if tinpot potbelly tyrant Kim will take exception to his ship being hijacked - especially if it’s full of weapons bound for Iran or someplace like that.

Don’t think that he’s got much of a “Navy” but his gunboats are capable of shooting up and capturing the USS Pueblo and threatening the ROK Navy (to little avail, apparently) - maybe he can send a few of them down to teach these pirates a lesson.

...Then again, maybe he’s not all that stupid, in spite of being crazy.

I’m surprised that the NOrks don’t arm their crews a little better. Wonder why the Somalis shot up a perfectly good hostage.
Did he pull his rusty old Tokarev on them, I wonder?

I’ve long been offering an old solution; “Letters of Marque and Reprisal”. The rest of the World abandoned the practice but America never formally revoked it that I’m aware of.
From what maritime history I’ve read, it seems to have worked pretty well for a while there - although sorting out the good guys - “Privateers” - from the “Pirates” could occasionally become a bit of a challenge.

It seems that some of the old Salts played whatever role seemed most expedient for them when opportunity hove in sight.

“Aaarrrggggh, me hearties!!!” &}P^{(~

1. Most countries don’t like armed ships entering the port. The dickless bastards who run them are too insecure to allow merchant ships the means of self defense.

2. Really asinine laws and treaties. The world thought pirates were a thing of the past and didn’t make any allowances in the laws and treaties for self defense from or the extermination of pirates.

Great picture & highlights the fact that 0bama’s view on guns changes with whoever he is talking to. One more examples of thousands over how this pig 0bozo is actively working to destroy our formerly great USA.

Interesting. With that said I would make sure these guards brought some very effective “tools” to work with.

We’ve got 120,000 troops in Iraq and they want 40,000 for Afghanistan. We’re fresh out of troops for invading Somalia as well.

"The armed guard they had on board seemed to do fine with the weapons at hand."

Not if the pirates survived. :-)
