The man believed to be Britain's most notorious serial sex attacker was arrested by the Metropolitan Police last night.
Known as the ‘Night Stalker’, the man is thought to be responsible for 108 offences in south and south-east London, including four rapes and 24 indecent assaults. He breaks into homes and sexually assaults his elderly victims.
Yesterday morning a 52-year-old man was arrested in south London — the area where most of the attacks took place. He is being held at a police station in the capital

For years, the public was told to be on the lookout for this white male, even though they claimed in the same breath, and in the same article:
"Detectives believe the suspect is an employed black man, aged between 35 and 45, who masks his crimes behind the veneer of a respectable life. "
Gee, do you think this hampered the investigation for years??

I read a lot of books about true crimes but almost had to give up on his story. Unbelievably savage and gory.
BTW this was the case where Diane Feinstein ( then mayor of San Francisco) gave away details of the sneaker pattern, which had been kept from the public up to then. She maintained that it was in the interests of warning the people but it did set the search for RR back.
