Republicans heading for a bloodbath in Florida (David Drum Alert)

(CNN) -- The Republican fratricide in the Nov. 3 special election in upstate New York may prove just an opening round of an even more spectacular bloodbath in Florida in 2010.

In New York, Republican feuding lost the party a seat in the House of Representatives. At stake in Florida is not only a senatorship -- but very possibly Republican hopes for 2012 as well.

The battle in Florida pits Gov. Charlie Crist against former Speaker of the Florida House Marco Rubio. Both men claim to be conservative, pro-life, tax cutters. On the issues, they would seem to agree far more than they disagree.

But on one issue they have disagreed passionately: President Obama's fiscal stimulus. Squeezed by his state's desperate fiscal condition, Crist endorsed and campaigned for the Obama stimulus. Inspired by his conservative ideology, Rubio opposed stimulus.

Now Rubio is the darling of conservatives nationwide. Just this week it was announced that he would give the keynote address at next year's annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington. He has been profiled on the cover of National Review, endorsed by the Club for Growth, and feted by radio talk show hosts.

I don’t think the media and washington elites have a CLUE as to just how FED UP the American people REALLY are - frankly I hope they remain in their coccoons all the way until November and then get the stomach gut wrenching hit they so richly deserve for selling this great Country down the toilet with their political correctness and bend over for the terrorists philosophy!

>> Inspired by his conservative ideology, Rubio opposed stimulus.

And, whaddayaknow! HE WAS RIGHT. Bambi’s stimulus has had no beneficial effect on anything, but it HAS bloated the deficit and debt.

You cannot be both for and against big government. It isn’t possible. I don’t care what Crist says. Or Frum.

David Frum is correct though that the federal government had to rescue the banks. Whether the rest of the economy needed the government to step in is another subject. It was necessary to keep the capital markets alive. But the stimulus on the other hand didn't do any real good and just made the deficit even worse.

Frum is so irrelevant. And everyone seems to know it but Frum and the east coast press.

I hear Crist all the time on talk radio in my area of north east FL saying how he is opposed to big Govt.

HUH
The man wanted this bailout and he supported obama.
How about his comments ALL THE TIME stating how he was a FL Gov for ALL the people in FL not just the right.

now he wants a new job he now runs right again but will piss us off if he gets in with his how he represents all the people of FL .

Well no chance Crist is and has been useless and I am doing all I can to get that word out.

Trouble is that Rubio is a name no one has heard of around here

Since when is a healthy primary battle for an open seat considered a bloodbath? HRC and BHO had a spirited primary contest and the Democrat Party wasn’t hurt in the least.

By the time he wins the GOP primary, that will not be an issue anymore.

LOL! I did not even notice. Drum sounds appropriate though, as in beating the anti-conservative drum.

These morons are still trying to pimp the fantasy that a vote for Scozzobama was a vote for a republican.

What happened in NY23 was a purification of the GOP. If it takes more of the same to return to its proper roots, so be it. There will be conservatives in the party, or there will be a third party.

Of course not. If they did, then they'd have to admit they were WRONG.

“In New York, Republican feuding lost the Party a seat in the House of Representatives.”

These people are clueless. They are still counting absentee ballots (10,000+), many from the military, and Hoffman is now behind by 2000 votes. Final tally won’t be until Thursday.
He still has a chance.

But putting truth out there, doesn’t pay any bills for Frum, eh?
