Obama to Receive Honorary Taekwondo Belt
The Chosun Ilbo ^ | Nov. 16, 2009 | unattributed

U.S. President Barack Obama will be given an honorary taekwondo belt to mark his first visit to Korea on Wednesday and Thursday. A government official said that President Lee Myung-bak will present Obama with an honorary taekwondo degree certificate and a uniform embroidered with his name.

Obama practiced taekwondo for about four years with an American master in Chicago from 2001 while he was serving in the Illinois state senate. He obtained a green belt.

Meanwhile, the government has yet to choose whether to serve the traditional Korean rice wine makgeolli or a Californian wine during the welcome luncheon on Thursday.

Some government officials say that makgeolli does not seem like a good idea since it has been served on several occasions such as the recent Korea-Japan summit and meetings with foreign diplomats stationed in Korea.

The government is considering a Californian wine as the leaders will discuss the ratification of the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement, and the California wine industry stands to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the deal.

This is the first I have heard this claim, anyone know
anything about it?

Assuming this is talking about South Korea.

They should know the Bummer is totally tone deaf when it comes to political niceties. They could serve Coca-Cola for all he cares.

I wonder if we will see his wife wear it as her new boob belt.

It appears to be true. This article talks about it in 2007:

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2007/02/the_real_story_on_obamas_schoo.html

I was wondering why someone wouldn’t attain a higher belt in four years - not that I know much about it - I only know other people who studied martial arts - but the article explains further.

Night Train, it's a downright mean wine.

Ah, to go along with his honorary Nobel Peace Prize. It figures. Has he ever earned any award, degree?

As a real one of the basic school,
I retch at this abuse of the belt.
This fool has no school. He’s just
a tool.
And his end will be well beyond cool.

What do you bet it was only the green stripe on a yellow belt?
