Title in-full is: "Obama Bow To Emperor Inappropriate-- U.S. Conservative Faction Criticizes"(オバマ氏の天皇にお辞儀は不適切 米保守派が批判 (They are essentially saying that US Conservatives are asserting that. (But it is fairly widespread here as a perception, and growing, although to-date Japanese have been their typical polite goodselves in playing down the faux paus of an ignorant, visiting, protocol-devoid foreigner, in this case POTUS).

Goes on to say that U.S. Conservative blogosphere, FOX News, etc. have picked up on the Obama bow as inappropriate. Also tied it into the earlier Obama bow/genuflection to Saudi Arabian King.
For your information.
It is actually from a Kyodo News report, which means it has now hit the Japanese news wires, big time. (...this is equivalent to AP carrying it in USA, Notimex in Latin America, German Press Agency in Germany, etc.).
The world is laughing at himand at the country as a whole. How humiliating.
He who laughs last , laughs best.
Thanks for the Japanese post from 2chaneru. Yep. They are on to it allright in Japan (that it is controversial in the USA). It is getting legs on both sides of the Pacific. As it should....
Thank you for keeping us up to date on the news and perspectives over there. Always enjoy your posts.
(with or without the bow, your choice!)
When I showed the picture to my Japanese spouse, she winced in embarrassed pain.
It’s obviously not something that anyone considers to be very serious, but it does make Obama look like a complete and total rube.
Patting the Empress on the butt might have been worse, but only in a matter of degree. If he wasn’t the American President, I am sure he would be strongly discouraged from ever visiting Japan again.
Obama will make it up to the Emperor - he’ll give him an IPOD...
He’s just reminding his hosts what kind of services are available.
I'd say almost GROVELING..!
It doesn't work like, "If some is good, MORE is better.." Or, "Bush didn't do this, SO I WILL...!"
What made you think that? My husband served two years in Japan and he had nothing but praise for their country and the people and said they “loved” American’s (emphasis on “ed” with this guy as POTUS)...
‘...As a guilt response to make up for the bow to the Saudi King...’
I can’t believe how cynical I have become....when I saw Mr. Obama’s bow to the Emperor of Japan, my first thought was....he did this purposefully so he won’t be criticized for bowing solely to the Saudi King. Now he can say.....I’ve bowed to others. imho, EVERYTHING done by Mr. Obama and his ‘advisors’, i.e. Axelrod, Emanuel, is orchestrated. They are master manipulators.
I am sure he would be strongly discouraged from ever visiting Japan again.
It would be all right with me if they buried him up
to his neck and let total strangers passing by
saw at his neck with a piece of bamboo...
ping!
Isn’t bowing usually akin to our handshakes - only more complicated? Anyhow, maybe he’s got a box set of DVD’s of the top Hollywood movies... /s
The Japanese must be laughing uncontrollably at our government. At least someone is...
OH JJ look what AIT said ROFL
The entire world is laughing at him. I hope the NSA informs him of the brutal truth. Narcissists are very very fragile! Let’s keep laughing!
Yep, that is essentially Japanese for "grovelling" allright. I am glad they are saying it now. Their *honne* can come out now. They have been boxing it in for 48 hours now with their *tatemae* firmly on top of it out of politeness and embarrassment for the foreigners (in my estimate also because the incident involved their esteemed Emperor or anybody in the Imperial Household; they would have been much more candid and lucent about Obama's tomfoolery if he had done this, standing before PM Hatoyama instead. Some topics are to be approached in Japan very gingerly when it comes to the Emperor, even if he is not at fault about something). LOL!
Did he fart too?
