Title in-full is: "Obama Bow To Emperor Inappropriate-- U.S. Conservative Faction Criticizes"(オバマ氏の天皇にお辞儀は不適切 米保守派が批判 (They are essentially saying that US Conservatives are asserting that. (But it is fairly widespread here as a perception, and growing, although to-date Japanese have been their typical polite goodselves in playing down the faux paus of an ignorant, visiting, protocol-devoid foreigner, in this case POTUS).

Goes on to say that U.S. Conservative blogosphere, FOX News, etc. have picked up on the Obama bow as inappropriate. Also tied it into the earlier Obama bow/genuflection to Saudi Arabian King.
For your information.
It is actually from a Kyodo News report, which means it has now hit the Japanese news wires, big time. (...this is equivalent to AP carrying it in USA, Notimex in Latin America, German Press Agency in Germany, etc.).
we could only hope that now that he has accidentally completely humiliated himself in front of the entire world he will now proceed with yet another more terminable Japanese tradition

This would all be fine as you describe, heavens knows many of us who have spent time in Japan know what you say is absolutely true.
But the last thing Japan needs right now is a US president who has an image of weakness. And thats what they got.The Chinese are already raising a stink and the Koreans will wipe the floor with him.The Norkies are laughing themselves silly and getting ready to play Obama like a fiddle. And Taiwan? They cringe at a weak president.
That is the problem.
Wtf is that? Is that supposed to be a salute?
I dont know. When pressed in press conferences, they just laugh or brush it off and ignore it. They will try the same tactic with this one. They will laugh it off as “insigificant”. And then “next question? Yes, Jim. Jim over here.”
I don’t know if it’s the same thing as a handshake or not. I know when my family lived there, it was a common gesture but the bow was nothing like what Obama did. It was closer to a nod than a bend at the waist bow.
I think that he’s like any typical liberal and his actions are based on arrogance and the belief that they are smarter than everyone else. Why...the Japanese should be thrilled and honored by this! ROFL
His bow was very Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, 'I am not worthy'.
I wonder if protesters at his appearances might mockingly bow to him? (you know that he'll understand the inference).
One time, my mother was traveling with just the two kids (my brother and I) and a Japanese man deliberately shoved her down the train steps...almost breaking her hip/leg. After she landed and the packages went everywhere, he picked up a tangerine that had fallen and said in English, "You dropped this," and walked off. But, we felt safer there than we do here in the US. lol
Perfect.
As it should be, but you aren’t the President of the United States. You aren’t representing 300 million free people.
Good job .... word is everywhere ...
that he is a certifiable DOOFUS!
I'd almost bet he will require
ALL AMERICANS TO BOW DOWN AND KISS HIS FEET or go to jail...
>>What made you think that? <<
Because my husband served in Okinawa in the eighties. Maybe your husband didn’t know anyone outside the base.
So, let's join the world and laugh along.
We now have a buffoon, previous to him a dunce and before him a hound dog.................we can sure pick 'em, can't we. Is this country great, or what??? ;-)
Maybe ØbaMao erroneously thought the Emperor was Muslim.
Exactly. Zero’s bow was subservient. And NO president should EVER bow.
“The temptation is to laugh at this buffoon, but the problem is, this buffoon represents our country.”

You can’t mean it! He is so cool and he is half black and he plays basketball and he is so cool and...and...and...did I mention he is half black? Well actually there seems to be some doubt about the half black part but he is a great rotator or something like that...there was a reason for all the excitement on the left...wasn’t there?
Having read a lot about Obama's early life, it seems to me that he was aloof and quite self-absorbed and therefore would have picked up NOTHING about those around him in Hawaii -- except Frank Davis Marshall.
“My experiences are somewhat different.”
It’s amazing how many people manage to remain blissfully unaware of such a blatant phenomenon. I wonder how they do it.
