'2012' movie review: Roland Emmerich ends the world ... again

“2012” Movie Review -- Remember “Independence Day,” that alien invasion movie with great special effects that made a ton of money?
You don’t remember it half as well as its director, Roland Emmerich. Because he turned it into a blueprint for “2012.”
2012 (PG-13) Columbia (158 min.) Directed by Roland Emmerich. With John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor. Now playing in New Jersey.

There is one, of course, every half-hour or so — the movie hasn’t been so much written as plotted on a graph — complete with national landmarks and religious icons torn to bits. No Muslim symbols, though; as Emmerich has honestly and gracelessly admitted, he dislikes all religions, but gave Islam a pass for fear of a fatwa on his head.

Cowardly Hollywood at its best-the whole town has the moral courage of a grapefruit....except when it comes to attacking their country and Christianity.
I said it before and I’ll say it again....John Cusack? Really? Sheesh.
Thinking back these things come along about every eight to twelve years.
Around 1992,3 there was a planetary alignment that was coming up, and for a decade or so before that, there were claims that this was going to result in the end of the world. I know a guy who totally screwed up his life, at least in part influenced on his fear of this end of the world event.
As you state there was the Y2K thing.
Now there’s 2012.
After 2012, there will be something else to obsess over.
The weak minded are in for a tough ride over the next three years. The media is going to ride this pony for all it’s worth. I suspect we’re just getting started.
Physicist Michio Kaku was on FNC this morning. He gave the movie an A rating for special effects and an F rating for science.
Y2K was a REAL threat, from an IT perspective. If we had not remediated the code we did, it could have brought the civilized world to it’s knees.
But we did and it didn’t.
BTW, there are short term examples of this mindset too, with people heralding the horrific things that will happen with things like the flesh eating disease, the Bird Flu, H1N1, and other medical ailments.
Gotta be someway to cash in on this 2012 crap.
I rarely go the movies and originally thought it was a good disaster movie and was going to go see it for the entertainment factor. When I heard about the muslim theme, I changed my mind. Hollywood will not get a dime from me.
Maybe, just MAYBE, its the MUSLIM religious symbol that is causing the destruction? I mean the meteorite (the black rock that fell to the earth) that is contained in that huge black cube (that’s right, the Muzzies PRAY TO A ROCK!) is in itself, an idol. Isn’t Satan supposed to come back to battle good on Earth? What better way than to come back as a black rock that fell to earth (The 5th Element?) and get millions to pray to you. There’s your army of Satan. Well, that’s my 2 cents....

No 2012 for me. Nope. Christian/Catholic symbols are okey dokey to ‘special’ effects into oblivion...but not a certain rocky thing...so oh well. College football and hockey games for me and the fam this weekend.

The whole entire world could not have fixed their code. I don’t recall ever hearing about any y2k disasters, did any happen?
My dad worked for a fairly large utility before y2k. They took it very seriously. They spent a huge amount of money getting their software ready and actually manned the power switching stations at midnight to manually throw switches in case the computers had hiccups. The computers did fine and everybody had some overtime on their next check.
Absolutely no reason whatsoever to see this movie.
I saw a clip last evening and it showed an unrelenting series of near misses from cascading cataclysms as the protagonist and his family attempt to drive to the airport as the world caves in around them. It was totally laughable after the first five seconds.
Then the Vatican caved in.
Michio kaku was on FOX this morning explaining that the dreaded galactic alignment happens every single year and that planetary alignments happen every few hundred years.
Basically the Mayan calendar ends in exactly the same way mine ends at the end of december.
After about the 10 or so preposterously harrowing escapes from death, I left the theater bored.
And besides, Danny Glover as a self-sacrificing President of The United States? I wasn't the only person to laugh at loud when (I won't ruin it for those who haven't seen it yet). Trust me, you'll spew soda out your nostrils, too.
I must say, though, the depiction of The First Lady was most agreeable.
Ahem.
Dehydrated food, water filters, non-hybrid seeds, wind up radios, LED flashlights, bug out bags, bomb shelters, haz-mat suits, gas masks.
Same stuff that was sold prior to Y2K by every huckster looking for a quick buck.

I wont give a CENT to support this Castro/Chavez RUMPRANGER’S career!
