Gingrich: Contract with America round 2 (Gingrich, Steele, RNC alert)
Tribune ^ | 2009-11-13 | Mark Silva

Newt Gingrich, the former Republican House speaker and purveyor of the GOP "Contract With America'' that helped his party win control of the House after President Bill Clinton's election, says GOP chairman Michael Steele has started work on a new framework for 2010 that he is calling "First principles.''

"I've been talking with Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, '' Gingrich said today, speaking with students at C-SPAN's Cable Center Class.

"He is developing a first principles model that I think is a very exciting , positive step in the right direction,'' said Gingrich, who has said that he will decide by February about waging his own campaign for president. "B September , it might be very, very good for the Republicans in the House and Senate to have a common ground on which to campaign, whether they call it a Contract for America or some other device.

"Having a positive set of things that say, 'if you elect us, these are the positive steps we will take,'' Gingrich said, on a program that C-SPAN3 is airing at 5 pm EST. This "may well be the key building block to really become the alternative party, not the opposition party.''...

"If the Democrats stay stuck over on a very left wing program and if they continue to have a job-killing record in Congress, I think by September and October you could suddenly have a very exciting election.''

"Having a positive set of things that say, 'if you elect us, these are the positive steps we will take,'' Gingrich said,

That's what he said the last time!

Yeah, that’s just great. The first Contract With America was such a resounding success that I’m sure everyone will want to sign up for this one, too.

“Gingrich engineered the greatest GOP congressional victory in history! “

And O.J.Simpson was once an American icon.

Does anyone remember the ‘welfare reform’ part of the first Contract with America? Wasn’t there supposed to be a lifetime limit on the amount of welfare one could collect? I remember the cries of how awful it would be for single moms who would have nowhere to go once their two years of benefits were up. When did those provisions get repealed?

I am all for conservative reform plans. We’ll see what the Rinos come up with.

There already is “a Contract with America”, Newt. It’s called “THE CONSTITUTION”. How about honoring that one?

“...and I have no idea what Steele is, really.”

Michael Steele came out of Maryland politics, claiming to be a Republican. That’s all you need to know to form an opinion.

Newt and the current Republican leadership have really no credibility and poor Newt is no longer the Ingenue he once was. He is living in Past Faded Glory.
Newt just start looking for wife number 4 and leave the real Politics to those outside the Beltway.

At least the liberals try to deliver. I know thats a horrible statement but well...

You're right.

Much as I detested Ted Kennedy, he fought for his detestable positions, and if you happened to agree with him, you had a champion for your causes.

I am damned if I know what the "R's" stand for anymore, except trying to weasel back in to power on the backs of others.
