Former President George W. Bush, outlining plans for a new public policy institute, on Thursday said America must fight the temptation to allow the federal government to take control of the private sector, declaring that too much government intervention will squelch economic recovery and expansion.
(snip)
In his speech, which set out his goals for a new policy institute focused on economic growth, education, human freedom and global health, Mr. Bush said he entered politics because "because I saw society drifting away from the values at the heart of the American Dream."

Muchas gracias, amigo.

A Bush will always release some steam when he is out of power. But “in power”, he spends all his time trying to get a Democrat to say something nice about him. And they NEVER DO!
The simple reason that we “bash” GWB (actually it’s telling the truth) is that he is mostly responsible for the horrors of 2008 and 2009. He set the machinery in motion.
saying that tells me you have not the slight understanding of who Obama. I’m not here to defend Bush.
Absolutely. FR isn't a Bush fan club site...
No, FR isn't a Bush fan club site, nor is it supposed to be a republican site or a TADSLOS Approved only site.
What it is:
We are a political discussion forum and independent grassroots conservative activist group supported by donations from our readers and participants.
Given your logic why are articles posted about obama, pelousy, reid??? We are a "political discussion forum" not some arm of pravda. President Bush was in the news, thus the article. If you don't like it, take it up with Jim!
TARP, bailouts, amnesty.
I assume you oppose all of these, because Obama supports all of these.
But, GWB supported all of these also.
Really? Where exactly did thouworm do that. I just read all his/her posts and found nothing that would qualify as "casting aspersions" in any post by him/her.
1) thouworm posts an article about Bush.
2) Some people post replies critical of Bush.
3) thouworm says posting about Bush is "fighting the last war."
Where's the logic in that?
Clearly you do or you would not have clicked on this thread.
Again...you must give a d@(# because you are here. You still have free will, until obama takes that away, and you CHOSE to click on this article while proclaiming you don't care what he has to say.
Exactly! Repeating your own words back to you; TARP, bailouts...Wake up!
If you do not understand them now, you are being willfully ignorant. Read the posts on this thread. TARP is discussed. Read...Learn...educate yourself.
I understand that Bush gave us the TARP and bailouts.
And I understand that you oppose the TARP and bailouts.
And yet you take offense when someone criticizes Bush for the TARP and bailouts.
Ummmmm, no I don't. What gave you that idea? What is the difference between TARP and the bailouts?
Well, you got me there. I assumed you would oppose TARP, as we are on a conservative forum. But apparently you don't.
(You and Obama do agree on at least one thing. LOL!)
What is the difference between TARP and the bailouts?
TARP = Toxic Asset Relief Program. Approved by Congress for banking sector.
BAILOUT = Using TARP (!) money for loans to ailing *auto* companies.
“I really dont appreciate your coming on this thread and insulting the last good president.”
He insulted Reagan? Where?
The complete and utter collapse of the U.S. economy, and thus the collapse of the world economy, should not be a conservative vs. liberal or republican vs. demonrat issue. It should be an issue of supporting our country and our way of life or working to hasten it's destruction.
Did you bother to read post #23?
HIGHLIGHTS: a tremendous drawdown of money market accounts in the United States, to the tune of $550 billion, was drawn out in the matter of an hour or two. their estimation was that by 2 o'clock that afternoon, $5.5 trillion would have been drawn out of the money market system of the United States, would have collapsed the entire economy system of the United States and within 24 hours the world economy would have collapsed.
It is simply amazing that so many "conservatives" fail to see what nearly happened last year, or choose to be ignorant of the facts.
Thank you for the definitions I requested. They are exactly the same as mine, but you never know around here any more and I wanted to make sure we were talking about the same thing.
Make no mistake...I agree with the usurper on NOTHING! We don't even agree on what his name is, legally.
“It is simply amazing that so many “conservatives” fail to see what nearly happened last year, or choose to be ignorant of the facts.”
You mean the sudden collapse of the credit bubble? We’ve (conservatives) have been predicting that for some time.
Intervention like TARP will, if economic history is a guide, prolong and worsen the problem.
No, that is not what I meant. There is far more to it than the credit bubble which has been discussed ad nauseum. For those with an agenda, the truth about what happened remains invisible to them. I'm sick to death of all the obfuscation.

So, forcing banks to take government ownership and setting up a slush fund that hasn’t been completely spent even NOW, while setting the stage for a massive government takeover of all aspects of the economy saved us all?
A credit collapse was predicted in 2008 and, yes, it happened. What money movement are you talking about? WaMu?
I believe the current skunks like the phrase “never let a good crisis go to waste”. Well, they aren’t.
“W did his part for the economy by retiring. Too bad he was replaced by someone just as bad.”
As socialist-leaning as W was, he still wasn’t as far left as the current guy. Of course, it’s only a matter of scale, but still.
