By the third week in September, a “Free Sarah” campaign was under way and the press at large was growing increasingly critical of the McCain camp’s decision to keep me, my family and friends back home, and my governor’s staff all bottled up. Meanwhile, the question of which news outlet would land the first interview was a big deal, as it always is with a major party candidate.
From the beginning, Nicolle [Wallace] pushed for Kattie Couric and the CBS Evening News. The campaign’s general strategy involved coming out with a network anchor, someone they felt had treated John well on the trail thus far. My suggestion was that we be consistent with that strategy and start talking to outlets like FOX and the Wall Street Journal. I really didn’t have a say in which press I was going to talk to, but for some reason Nicolle seemed compelled to get me on the Katie bandwagon.

About that Couric interview....Asking what magazines you read is a really, really stupid question. I would have to answer the same as Sarah did. I just grab what’s in front of me....It’s not the big source for NEWS though..
Just this little bit confirms our suspicions about “our candidate”. McCain is a snake in the grass and needs to be defeated in AZ next year at all costs.
I give better than even odds that someone posts the mile long list of links about how Romney’s people sabotaged the McCain campaign before this thread reaches 50.

I question whether McCain was really “in charge”. He was in the background almost out and suddenly was the front runner. Then all the others just dropped out.
I think someone in the GOP decided it was his turn.

Funny. I always felt that Huckabee and McCain worked together to defuse the Romney campaign.
you can see why McCain never had a chance...surrounded by CBS spies and enemies of the country he had no way to win....I’m sure they worked night and day against him

She just relates to you,” Nicolle said. “believe me, I know her very well. I’ve worked with her.”Nicolle had left her gig at CBS just a few months earlier to hook up with the McCain campaign.
This is a perfect example of who the leaks are and how the media bores it's way into the political engines of presidential campaigns to determine the loser.
