The Army realized that Major Nidal Hasan had reached some sort of crisis point last year, but as the Washington Post reports today, they deliberately avoided a determination of danger that would have led them to separate Hasan from the service. Instead, they sent him to a lecture series on Islam in the hope that it might clear up Hasans delusional thinking on his religion. None of Hasans fellow psychiatrists at Walter Reed thought he was dangerous, but they almost willed themselves not to ask the real questions:
Army psychiatrists at Walter Reed Army Medical Center who supervised Maj. Nidal M. Hasans work as a psychiatric fellow tried to turn his growing preoccupation with religion and war into something productive by ordering him to attend a university lecture series on Islam, the Middle East and terrorism, according to a Walter Reed staff member familiar with Hasans medical training.

Hoo boy, imagine what would hit the fan if, say, a troubled Christian or Buddhist were told to do something analogous. The ACLU would be screaming "separation of church and state" from the rooftops.
Like pouring gasoline on a fire.
This is just insane.
Wow...what clear thinkers. Please tell me the logic of that! Could someone identify just who made/oversaw these decisions? I’d like to give them a piece of my mind.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find only things evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelogus
As horrible as the atrocities were at Fort Hood, can you imagine what could have happened if this idiot had been discharged and sent into civilian population? The disaster could have been so, so, so much worse. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize this is a wake up call to all of us, especially those in power. This act could have also been one to symbol to the sleeper cells - ‘hey, look. the dumb Americans still think we’re a peaceful bunch. Let’s infiltrate a little more.”
I swear, our own freedoms that we love and cherish will be our undoing.
The make believe world of PC strikes the Army. Islam is a dangerous religion, but Political Correctness the religion even outdoes that.
It’s not a totally unreasonable idea to send him to such a lecture series, especially if it was conducted by a sane Muslim who Hasan might be expected to view as a religious authority (and who might subsequently be willing to provide a formal opinion in support of an effort to remove Hasan from military service, from a Muslim perspective, and thus show that anti-Muslim discrimination wasn’t at the root of the effort to remove him). But if they were concerned enough about his religious thinking to order this as an attempt at corrective action, they certainly should have been watching him very closely to see if it had the desired effect.
When I was stationed in ROK in 1990, Armed Forces Network TV regularly aired "Islam...a Religion of Peace" propaganda commercials. Doubly odd, since Korea is primarily a Christian and Buddhist country. Somebody with money and influence had to be pulling the strings, and that was 20 years ago.
How many more like him are out there, right now, in the Armed Forces or on Police forces, waiting for the right day to stand up, shout allah ackbar and start mowing down their comrades?
Political Correctness will be the death of us all.
Un-freaking-believable.....
The supervisors are guilty of dereliction of duty. It is their duty to think not just as doctors but also as soldiers. Their duty as soldiers would have dictated some completely different course of action
CASEY: "Again, I think that's something else we need to be very careful about, and I think the speculation could potentially heighten backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers. And what happened at Fort Hood was a tragedy, but I believe it would be an even greater tragedy if our diversity becomes a casualty here."
The Sauds funded just such a propaganda campaign. I would bet it was them.
delusional? If it’s delusion then it’s mass delusion, as he subscribes to the “kill non-muslims” belief of the terrorist sect within Islam.
There are thousands out there that want to kill us one bomb at a time and one spray of bullets at a time.
You can call this a group of sick people but meanwhile our lives are being threatened. I want to protect our lives more than I want to insure that the rights of good and bad Muslims are not violated. Our constitution says that we Americans have a “right to life”. Our government’s most important job is to see that that right is not taken away from us.
Huh?
