Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views have made him a TV lightning rod, plans to announce Wednesday that he is leaving the network, two network employees said.
A CNN executive confirmed that Mr. Dobbs will announce his resignation plans on his 7 p.m. program. His resignation is effective immediately; tonights program will be his last on CNN. His contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011.
Well known for his political positions, Dobbs is an outlier at CNN, which has sought to position itself as a middle ground of sorts in the fractious cable news arena.
Mr. Dobbs met with Roger Ailes, the chairman of the Fox News Channel, in September. At the time Mr. Dobbs was viewed as a potential hire for the Fox Business Network. But a Fox spokesperson said Wednesday, We have not had any discussions with Lou Dobbs for Fox News or Fox Business.
Mr. Dobbs has been with CNN since its founding, save for a two-year stint at a Web site called Space.com. He has evolved over the years from a straight-laced business anchor to an outspoken commentator who rails against illegal immigration and taxpayer bailouts, among other subjects.

I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info.
Amen. Lou did fight for Compean and Ramos. Lou is an honorable guy and will stand up for the right thing.
Get rid of O'Loud Mouth, move Beck to his slot, and put Dobbs in Beck's old slot.
That’s the only show I watched on CNN ... he’s against Shep Smith on Fox and Shep is a loser of the first rank. So watching Lou over Shep was a non-decision. Now I have a “blank spot” in my evening viewing ... oh well, at least I can now take CNN out of my TV ... no need for them now, so I’ll just block ‘em. “Bye”
Shep Smith should be a towel boy at a bathhouse.
Lou Dobbs is an honorable man.
Agree I have Lou on right now but if he is gone I will never turn on that channel again.
I see your point, thank you for the clarification.
Have a nice evening.
Lou Dobbs is a gentleman while O’Reilly is a loud mouth lout and Olberman is a evil little creep.
Lou is someone I respect like Rush. Plus I also like Beck a lot too.
Bret Baier is another good guy.
Fox can dump Geraldo aka Jerry Rivers, Shep Sissy and BOR(e) aka Bill O’Reilly.
FOX should dump Rivers and replace him with Dobbs.
Boy Lou just kicked some butts on subject of Fort Hood and P.C.
Best interview I’ve ever seen with Lou he really tore the 2 liberals up on the panel he was discussing about Fort Hood.
Send Shep Smith to CNN, that IS where he belongs."
Yes, he should partner up with Anderson Cooper, (in more ways than one)!
Lou signed off with:
“As they say. I’ll see you next on the radio.”
My bet is that Mr. Dobbs will get stiffed on any pension benefits from CNN. Otherwise he needs CNN about as much as we need that candyass Obama in the Whitehouse.
7:00 would be a great slop for Dobbs followed by Beck! Dobbs was great tonight! One of his best nights, panels! He really kicked butt!
I'd like to see him replace Sheppie-Gay-Guy-Smith.
You gotta love the left-wing bias at NYT. From the first line of the article, they characterize Dobbs’ views as “anti-immigration”. Once again, the left fails to draw a distinction between LEGAL and ILLEGAL immigration. It is the latter that Dobbs and most Americans are against.
I am sorry folks, but when 500,000 illegals held a rally waving mexican flags (the flag of the country from which they fled) their true motives were exposed.
Instead of debating the issues the left attempts to marginalize those with whom they disagree by branding them “racist”. When that doesn’t work, they just perpetrate a drive-by at your house. Such open-minded “tolerance” from the left. CNN will be in the ratings basement with msnbc.
I liked his show, what a shame. CNN is basically unwatchable now.
