Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views have made him a TV lightning rod, plans to announce Wednesday that he is leaving the network, two network employees said.
A CNN executive confirmed that Mr. Dobbs will announce his resignation plans on his 7 p.m. program. His resignation is effective immediately; tonights program will be his last on CNN. His contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011.
Well known for his political positions, Dobbs is an outlier at CNN, which has sought to position itself as a middle ground of sorts in the fractious cable news arena.
Mr. Dobbs met with Roger Ailes, the chairman of the Fox News Channel, in September. At the time Mr. Dobbs was viewed as a potential hire for the Fox Business Network. But a Fox spokesperson said Wednesday, We have not had any discussions with Lou Dobbs for Fox News or Fox Business.
Mr. Dobbs has been with CNN since its founding, save for a two-year stint at a Web site called Space.com. He has evolved over the years from a straight-laced business anchor to an outspoken commentator who rails against illegal immigration and taxpayer bailouts, among other subjects.

Considering that Lou's wife is from Mexico, I suspect you're right.
Lou is going to run for the Senate. It is clear to me he is going to try to make a real difference. He is one of the great conservative thinkers of this time when the landscape of conservative leaders looks very bleak in deed. God bless Lou and keep hitting hard -old friend.
Oh. now you've done it.
I don’t have any problem with Major Garrett. It’s the possibility of “conditions” Obama (or Axelrod or Emmanuel) may have set in order to do the interview in the first place. After all the bruhaha about his being anti-Fox News, it’s not impossible negotiations could have been reached to “limit” discourse about him or his administration (either during the interview or in the future). I pray that is not the case.
Maybe they will ship Shepherd Smith to CNN and bring Lou to FOX.
I’d be happy with that.
I like the way you think........
Hmm...what state?
From New Jersey? I don't think that's going to fly with the libs there. Replacing a lousy governor with a Republican is one thing. Dobbs for Senate is quite another.
Yep, Its a shame Lou is leaving. His show was the only time I changed the channel from FOX to CNN.
I second that! The TV remote immediaely goes on "OFF" when either of their faces appears on the screen (even if they are only commenting on a topic on someone else's show).
The CEO will probably write you back personally. I don't think he's got alot of fan mail to read.
Constipated-looking codger who is right on immigration, though not much else.
New Jersey is where he now resides. I can't see it happening.
Dumpo BOR(e) aka Bill O’Reilly. He sounds like a RINO or DIABLO.
Dobbs is not really my cup of tea.
Yes he promotes the necessity of strongly enforcing our overly-generous immigration laws, but that is really all I agree with him on. He is against free trade, against corporate America and against right-to-work. He is a Populist with all the worst parts of Buchananism. Nothing really there at the core of it all. NOT a Conservative, NOT a Reaganite.
He is also too old. Been on CNN since the beginning. OK for me annd my age group, but younger folks, the future of America don’t listen to him. Fox doesn’t need him and should not offer him anything.
My Crystal Ball says, Dump O’Reilly and give the slot to Glenn Beck. We don’t need Dobbs.
(He He He, watch the demon-rats heads burst into flames!)
You're looking for fair or accurate from the NY Times? :-) Not going to happen... On a similar note, I recently found out that I am a "Climate Change Skeptic". I find this odd since I am not skeptical at all that the climate changes.
Geraldo aka Jerry Rivers is a POS. Lou Dobbs is a good guy. Lou Dobbs was one of the few people on CNN that has an audience anymore.
