Barack Obama's speech commemorating Veterans Day at Arlinton Cemetery this morning was received with stony silence by those in attendance.
What should have been applause lines for Obama about caring for our veterans drew no cheers, no clapping and no 'hooahs'.
There was no Prince-concert-squealing for Obama like there was yesterday at the Fort Hood memorial service. In fact there was no cheering at all for the commander-in-chief in a time of war. Just polite, subdued applause when Obama was introduced and when he conluded his speech.
In contrast, a randomly selected Veterans Day speech by President George W. Bush shows numerous interruptions for applause.
A transcript of Bush's 2004 speech includes notations of eight interruptions for applause before the final notation of applause at the conclusion of his speech.

See post #72.
Michelle wore black to memorial service and looked big as a house but appropriate.
THe whooping was a few people as he made his dramatic entrance down the steps,,it was so out of line that I gasped.
But the singer sang AMazing Grace at the end and the audience clapped,,I will never get used to clapping at the end of a solemn hymn for the dead.
Your post is so beautifully composed and written it should be printed in large type on the front of every newspaper in the country.
But since it won’t be, with your excellent writing mind, can you compose something in 5 words or less than can print on paper for telephone pole posting?
If so, unless the clock on FOX News was wrong, The Kenyan was late - by 2 or 3 minutes.
A big salute to all veterans today...God bless you all.
!
She wore *that*?
Runs from the room, screaming.
>That belt shes wearing has got to be some kind of symbolism to someone or something. There is no other logical reason for wearing it at totally unappropriate times and places, with apparently no regard to the garments shes wearing. Who wears a belt that is not part of a coat over the top of one?<
That’s exactly what I thought.
That belt is every bit as out of place in that outfit as the lovely couple themselves are at 1600.
Just heard on Fox News today that the returning troops are having problems finding jobs when they come home..
Somebody here pegged it as a radiator hose clamp. Thanks for the update, I know one grave that is rolling over there today, my dad’s.
We live about 2 hrs from Ft. Hood and were going to attend but knowing this POS president would be there just could NOT bring ourselves to go. And hearing about the cheerleaders left me in a rage yesterday, which continued today but we honor our veterans regardless.
Our son served in the 1st CAV for five years at Ft. Hood, he has served in two other divisions since then, I'm shame-faced that this president ruins everything he appears at for us, our family and friends who have loved ones serving.
I'm glad to hear about the silence at Arlington, as well there should be in such a dignified and sacred place. Matter of fact, he should have been blocked from entering there by the loved ones of those buried there. He disgraces us all. Congress disgraces us all, we will remember these traitors.
No, all Americans are aware of what is giong on. The others that live here and voted for obama don't give a damn so long as their freebies are not messed with.
Good. Maybe this shows that he is finally being seen for what he is.
I’m appalled that there was any applause, much less squealing, at Fort Hood.
Did she oversleep this morning? Hair looks like she just rolled out of bed. Her ensemble looks like her bathrobe thrown over her gown. No make-up. Hung over? Maybe little too much alcohol last night because the cool couple was not worshipped by the families. Maybe she has had too many serious functions to attend, she likes it better when it about them.
So many possibilities.

I don’t mind. I would’ve posted it as a vanity had I seen it myself. (I don’t post second-hand accounts usually, but this was too much to keep quiet about.)
Is there a link to video where we can observe the silence and subdued opinion of the attendees with Zero?
I know you can’t be everywhere at once, but this comment is very revealing...

I know that some thought about it, but were reminded that they were there to honor the dead, not to make a political statement.
I am VERY proud of our soldiers who maintained honer, respect and dignity throughout the service.
Ouch.
Stop the hassling; perhaps that IS where it keeps its heart
