Oh no...it is a long honoured tradition. As I said above, the Generals have their own also ans will leave them. It is a great tribute and has stood the test of time. All presidents would do the same.

The duty of POTUS isn't prayer (that's the duty of the chaplain, as you stated), but rather action in times like these; such as removing all Muslims from duty until it can be proven they aren't a threat to the rest of our servicemen and women (FDR comes to mind). Unfortunately, the prevention of offending Muslims is of the utmost priority; the security of our fellow citizens and servicefolk are a distant second.

Does anyone know if there was a request to fly flags at half-staff? I hadn’t heard anything, but noticed many, many flags lowered in my area.

No need to hold back. There were many of us crying right alongside you. I can’t help but miss President Bush’s natural tears at times like this..it always comforted me to know his heart was so full, so big and sore, just like the rest of us.

I thought it was a very moving memorial, however it just saddens me that they do not mention Jesus Christ, I guess it’s not PC...Jesus came for all people not any paticular religion but for every Jew and for every gentile...
