Oh no...it is a long honoured tradition. As I said above, the Generals have their own also ans will leave them. It is a great tribute and has stood the test of time. All presidents would do the same.
I’ve never seen it before, but maybe you’re right. In my experience, coins were more like trading cards and ‘attaboys’. Not something you’d present to the dead.
