Jimmy Carter, corrupt Democratic Sen. Christopher Dodd and other sycophants of Latin American Marxists were instrumental in installing Hugo Chavez as Venezuela's president for life and in the Castro brothers keeping their iron grip on Cuba. Since the 1980s, the opportunistic U.S. communist cabal has been busy tying America's diplomatic hands and building the foundation for socialism's surge in the Western Hemisphere. This relentless campaign sent an unmistakable message to America's enemies: The United States is one election away from installing a more sympathetic, accommodating administration. That election was a year ago this week.
Since his inauguration, President Obama has embraced Chavez and his brand of communism; condemned foreign policy based on free-market principles and shelved trade deals with friendly governments in Panama and Colombia; hailed the re-election of Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, a leftist despot-in-waiting who has declared he'd rather be a friend of Chavez and the Castros than a U.S. ally; and turned a blind eye to violence and human-rights abuses in Mexico and elsewhere. And Mr. Obama has shown almost no alarm as one leftist Latin American regime after another aligns itself with Iran.
In April at a hemispheric summit, the president sounded like Sen. Dodd when he preemptively condemned "any efforts at violent overthrows of democratically elected governments." That told leftists they are free to do their worst. Months later, he applied the Dodd Doctrine to Honduras after its Supreme Court and Congress defended democracy and the national Constitution by deporting President Manuel Zelaya in late June before he could take the next step toward installing himself as president for life. The Obama administration aligned with Chavez and the Castros in condemning "the coup"; now the administration has brokered a deal it hopes will return Mr. Zelaya to power, but it's likelier to touch off a constitutional crisis.
Meanwhile, President Obama has been silent as Marxist Daniel Ortega has taken liberties with Nicaragua's democracy. The Sandinista leader won the presidency in 2006 with just 38 percent of the vote in a Carter-certified election, but was barred by law from serving more than one term.
In late October, Ortega took a page out of the Chavez playbook by getting his three stooges on the Supreme Court to scrap term limits. With an iron grip on the nation's electoral council, Mr. Ortega's perpetual rule now is all but assured, without a word of protest from Washington.
President Obama's banana-republic policy imperils national security by ensuring socialism and anti-Americanism thrive in the region and legitimatizing regimes rooted in an ideology responsible for the murder of more than 100 million peopl. By forsaking America's few remaining allies in the hemisphere, he gives lovers of liberty at home and abroad pause to wonder how America can expect to remain the world's beacon of freedom when it abets incremental, unconstitutional coups that threaten the freedom and well-being of tens of millions of Latin Americans.
The Sandinistas should’ve been banned and liquidated in the 80’s.
Ping to a Republican-American Editorial.
If you want on or off this list, let me know.
And the democrats well before then.
The democrat/totalitarian/socialist party does not care if they lose the House in 2010.
Once govt run DeathCare is enacted the RINOS can not and certainly will not repeal it.
A brand new automatic constituency is created for the Totalitarian party and that is ALL those now dependent on govt run deathcare.
They are creating a permanent majority that will only be interrupted occasionally by the cranky RINOS.
There’s so much school-girl love in Harkin’s eyes, I hope he brought a condom.
Exactly. Can anyone name one instance of a government expansion that has been downsized, much less repealed? The left knows once it’s done, it’s permanent. And they know that the more of the population they get into “entitlement” programs, the more those voters have invested in voting for them. Too bad our leadership on the right can’t see as far.
As the march to Socialism continues so will the flight of capitalist innovators continue. Why work so hard and invest so much money only to see the profits of those endeavors distributed to the non-productive. Cayman or Monte Carlo or Costa Rica will become the new home for the brilliant entrepreneurs.
Since his inauguration, President Obama has embraced Chavez and his brand of communism, your change is here hope you like it progressives.
The tree of liberty must be watered.
>> As the march to Socialism continues so will the flight of capitalist innovators continue.
Capitalism is the beneficiary of Liberty.
It’s hard to believe that so many Americans do not realize they’re better off in a Capitalistic environment - it must be some combination of ignorance, denial, and gullibility. Once their Liberties deflate to the appropriate Socialistic levels, maybe they’ll wake up and complain.
Thank the Leftists in our government for the fact they weren’t. The Leftists in our government did everything they could to take out our own that were fighting for a Commie free hemisphere.
What is so sad is that our yutes of America are so ignorant about these economic, national security , and Care issues, that socialist pacifism does not even come on their screen of reality. Dems have cornered the market on revolutionary change and it is killing democracy, liberty, capitalism and our way of life. They will still blame W for unemployment which under him was 4.7% and is now nearly 4 times that rate now and not one peep from them or the MSM.
That pic was taken in the early 80’s when the rats were trying to thwart Reagans support for the Contras (the woman in the pic is Harkins wife, who’s also a piece of work). I’ve never found a picture of Dodd with Ortega, but he was one of the biggest Ortega ass-kisser (and Reagan hater) in the government at that time. I consider the people who’ve kept these degenerates in office to be human garbage, and by no means my countrymen. For an embarrassing number of decades I’ve watched the American left collaborate with every mortal enemy our country has, and I throughly despise them for it.
