KILLEEN, Texas – The attorney for a man suspected in a deadly shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, says he's heading to San Antonio to meet his client.
Retired Col. John P. Galligan says he was retained by Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's family on Monday. He says he has asked investigators not to question Hasan and doesn't know if he's been medically cleared to talk.
Hasan is accused of opening fire on the Army post on Thursday, killing 13 people and wounding 29 before civilian police shot him. He remains at a U.S. Army hospital in San Antonio, where a spokesman said Monday he is now able to talk.
Authorities won't say when charges would be filed or if Hasan would face military justice.

Can Hasan even get a lawyer from outside the military? (just asking) Everyone, at least those with the PC degrees, seem to be of the opinion Hasan was NOT in the U.S. Army. They act like he was some poor Muslim guy who got suckered into shooting people at an Army installation.

Yes, you are afforded the opportunity to retain private, civilian counsel when facing court-martial. Of course, this will be at the defendant's expense. The military will also appoint a JAG defense attorney as well.
I’m not sure the feds will prosecute on behalf of each victim. In multiple-murder cases, it’s commonplace for the prosecutuion to press charges on behalf of a select few and withhold the rest for later prosecution in case the first case(es) are overturned on appeal. (This was done in US v. Terry Nichols after the OKC bombing.)
So, while I’m aware of the potential for double jeopardy, I’m hoping the civilian victim will be left out of the initial proceedings. Hoping...but not overly optimistic.
He’s active duty, the Military is picking up the tab, I’m pretty sure.

ABC News announced that Hasan will be tried in a military court.
Wasn't it reported that Hasan hired an attorney to help him get out of the military? I wonder if this Galligan guy is the same one?

No doubt. By the hour, it seems, we find out more and more about just how deep his involvement went.

So, the guy is shot as he is shooting a police officer. Dozens of people saw him.
Why can’t they say “Hasan shot...”?
Personal experience ... I worked with him when he was a military judge on Fort Hood, and I've been the court reporter on numerous cases .. and my subordinates have been the reporters on many more .. where he was the civilian defense counsel.
