Federal investigators are examining possible links between Fort Hood shooting suspect Maj. Nidal M. Hasan and an American-born imam who U.S. authorities say has become a supporter and leading promoter of al-Qaeda since leaving a Northern Virginia mosque, officials said.
Hasan attended the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church in 2001, when its spiritual leader was Anwar al-Aulaqi, a figure who crossed paths with al-Qaeda associates, including two Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers, one senior U.S. official said.
Since Aulaqi left in 2002 and settled in Yemen, his lectures promoting the strategies of an al-Qaeda military leader have shown up in computer files of suspects in terrorism cases in the United States, Canada and Britain, officials said. It is not clear whether Hasan knew the preacher well then or only later through his lectures on the Internet.
A federal law enforcement official said Sunday that investigators' operating theory remains that Hasan acted alone and without provocation or exhortation from an overseas person. However, new leads are being pursued based on information gleaned from a methodical review by investigators of Hasan's computer and his multiple e-mail accounts. Those include visits to Web sites espousing radical Islamist ideas, another senior official said.
On Monday, a private U.S. intelligence group said that al-Aulaqi posted a message on his Web site praising Hasan as a "hero," saying that "any decent Muslim" could not serve as a U.S. soldier because the United States is "leading the war against terorrism which in reality is a war against Islam."

Every family member that ran to the cameras to say Hasan was being harassed should be arrested, waterboarded and deported.
Lets see:
1. Private gun ownership demonized check
2. Muslims demonized check
3. Military personnel demonized check
4. Base dwelling troops at home terrorized
by a fellow American check
5. Yet another chance to distract the public check
If this really happened the way its been spun,
there have to be a lot of social engineers
high fiving each other at their good luck.
And what about the logic of the gunman?
He was afraid of being deployed to a combat
zone
so he created one at home so he
could be killed sooner? I realize the man
was crazy but come on.
(I wonder what prescribed medically-endorsed
pharmaceutical substance(s) he was one. Well
never know because it would violate his privacy.
Score another one for Big Pharma.)
13 killed and 30 wounded by one man with
two pistols.
Nearly a 50% kill rate.
Ever fired a handgun? Ever tried aiming
and firing two at a time? Under pressure?
Ever reload a handgun under pressure?
There were people shooting at him. Thats
a little pressure.
Whom helped him?
Boy did you Nail that one!
Fort Hood: Let’s Drop the Political Correctness
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/11/09/fort_hood_99072.html
Unless they find a note signed by Osama himself specifically requesting Maj. Hasan to shoot up Ft. Hood, the investigators will conclude that they can prove that this is an act of Terrorism. Said note would probably have to be signed in Osama’s blood so that the FBI could do a DNA check and it would also need to be accompanied by at least 3 notarized statements attesting to its authenticity. Sarcasm/
Uhhh... That’s what. I meant to say. Thanks for being on the same wavelength!
Possibility, even probability of legal and economic repercussions directed towards anyone calling a spade a spade-check.
Deliberate suppression of free speech in the name of political correctness-check.
Demonisation of those who do speak the plain truth as “bigots” or “racists”-check.
Anyone who had the least interest in learning whether it was in fact him, could have done so easily and quickly.
Either someone did and buried it or were afraid that it might prove to be the case and they might be forced to act or someone was told not too look closely.
There is something that smells to high heaven and (putting on tin foil hat) I don't think we will ever know the complete details as it will prove to embarrassing for some very highly placed personnel, both within and outside Pentagon, Intel Agencies, FBI, DHS and Administration
That's been one of the questions I have been asking.
This was not the actions of a standard non-combatant, shrink who supposedly should have had little or no experience using a handgun so effectively and efficiently.
Anyone who knows anything about this subject cannot deny that there was much training and practice involved prior to this barbaric, deliberate, and PREMEDITATED act of TERRORISM.
With all the combat veterans in that room it really is surprising that he wasn't physically tackled while in the act of re-loading. This indicates to me that Maj. Hasan was careful to target the most immediate threats, and too such other steps to mitigate that possibility.
