Police Heroine Who Brought Down Fort Hood Gunman Lost Half Her Blood After Being Shot
Daily Mail ^ | 11/08/09 | David Gardner and Liz Hazelton

The lightly-built police heroine who is credited with halting the Fort Hood massacre almost died at the scene after losing half the blood in her body.

Mother of one Sergeant Kimberley Munley confronted gunman Nidal Malik Hasan and, despite being wounded in both legs, brought him down with four shots.

One of the shots cut an artery in her leg, leaving blood pumping out but she still managed to keep firing before collapsing.

Heroine: Kim Munley, a civilian police officer, is the woman who brought Hasan down by shooting him four times before he could slaughter more people.

Medic Francisco Delaserna applied a tourniquet to Sgt Munley as she drifted in and out of consciousness because of blood loss.

'I cut her trousers oopen, tied a tourniquet around her thigh and stopped the bleeding. But she had already lost a lot of blood,' he said.

Hope the jerk hasan lives so that he can spend what remaining days he has left considering that it was a lowly woman that kept him away from his 72 virgin goats.

Good job Kim. You are in our prayers.

Civilians perform police duty on the base. They are not affected or influenced by the military chain of command.

I would not go that far. They still work for a military boss, somewhere up the line. Possibly as little "up" as the head of Emergency Services, but certainly the garrison commander and the post commander.

Thanks...is that in Virgina or Texas?

Maryland. But still near DC. Probably the most radical mosque in the US.

Kudos to her for quick action !!!

That of course is the key. Wether her rounds or her partner's rounds finally put him down, she was the one, by all accounts, to engage him first.

I pray that she will fully recover and be able to walk, run, surf, etc.

She answered the call a lot more honorably than “some” "donut eaters".

Compare her reponse wiht the cops at Columbine.

For years since 9/11 we have had to hear the liberal extremists tout their looney theory that the attack on the Twin Towers was really a plot by the Bush Administration, and that they had bombs planted in the building, yadda yadda yadda. Wanna make a liberal really angry...Well...just wonder out loud if this terrorist attack was something planned by the current administration and Hasain was just following orders from “someone” in DC? But, we conservatives are far too sensible for that.

If zero had a shred of honor in his soul he would be planning to meet with this hero and suggest she be awarded the nation's highest civilian award. But I will not hold my breath.
At least most of us know she is a hero. May she fully recover from her wounds, both physical as well as emotional. May she in the days to come once she is fully back on her feet, and look back and be able to say.... I did what had to be done, and have no negative emotional effects take place.

I don’t get the “no guns” rule on base either. You think they will be without weapons while on base in Afghanistan?? Ridiculous. I’m sure some Clinton era DoD doofus signed that, and it’s been that way ever since.

Real men should be protecting women, not putting them in positions of danger.

I'd like to see more than the occasional "real" man. Anyone have any extras just lying about? No? Dang! guess I'll just have to kill that rattlesnake myself then. ;)

Another hero; he probably saved her life.

Medic Francisco Delaserna deserves a medal too.

As does Amber Bahr, who carried out one of the wounded for treatment, not realizing that she herself, had also taken a round. Both are due a Soldier's Medal, at a minimum, if not a Bronze Star...

It's West Fort Hood that was an Air Force base from '47 to '52 and later DASA facility. The part that glows in the dark..... just kidding, I hope, since that is where I work. A few of the old Air Force and DASA facilities are still in use, including some of the base housing, and many of the DASA bunkers.

You work at WFH, Gato? I was there (RGAAF) up until 1987. Remember those bunkers well...

"The men and women who recognized the threat and rose to the occasion to save lives with no regard to their own well being."

I've seen and known of many good actions in my some 60 years. Munley and Todd now top the list.

I know heroes when I see them. They could have hid behind the building while waiting for backup, which would have been a reasonable and honorable action. Instead, they moved forward around the corner of the building and confronted the Islamist prick head on.

A 90lb woman pulled her weapon on a Muslim fanatic that looks to be about 220lbs, and engaged in a face to face fire-fight. How much more brave can you be? And don't forget her partner, Todd, who was also first on scene. A couple of very brave COPS.

I worked Shore Patrol in Rota, Spain for a couple years and although I had to wrestle with drunk Marines and Sailors at the end of night and arrest them, I always wondered what I would do if I had to pull my sidearm. Would I hesitate to pull the trigger against my fellow Americans or the Spanish trouble-makers? Glad, I never had to find out.

Munley and Todd didn't hesitate. They're both my new heroes. I hope they both get past any "trauma" and both get a few million dollars in book and movie deals. If anyone deserves it, they do. However, I won't be surprised that they just continue on with their Army careers. Either way works for me.
