FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) ― Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited wounded soldiers and their families near the site of the worst mass shooting on an Army post in the United States.
The Bushes made their private visit to Fort Hood's Darnall Army Medical Center on Friday night. Bush spokesman David Sherzer said in an e-mail that the couple thanked Fort Hood's military leaders and hospital staff for the "amazing care they are providing."

Bush Meets With Members Of Wounded Warrior Soldier Ride
Wait until Former President Obama does something to outshine President Palin....it will be ugly. That is why I think Former Presidents should stay out of EVERYTHING. Yes I will be bashed for this because we have a Democratic President currently, but if we accept this we have to accept the Democratic Presidents doing it when a Republican is in charge.
yes i do!!!
Glad to hear about this visit.
Wait until Former President Obama does something to outshine President Palin....it will be ugly.Palin or any person that has the same political positions that she current stands and fighting for. .. Yeah. I agree.
Bush HAS stayed out of Obama’s way. He visited the injured.....quietly without the media.....he did this out of his own human compassion. If I could have gone I would have. You are way off base about this. Way off.
Or even a decent human being.
Well said, jonny---unfortunately.
That is why I think Former Presidents should stay out of EVERYTHING.I agree again. Let's start with soon-to-be former President Obama in 2013.
Me too.
And I don't think we would have believed it had someone told us. I knew he was going to be terrible, as many of us did, but not in our wildest imaginations could we have thought up what has transpired since January 20th. It brings tears to my eyes to think of GWB and Laura walking out of the WH that day. What an incredible loss.
Yes I will be bashed for this because we have a Democratic President currently, but if we accept this we have to accept the Democratic Presidents doing it when a Republican is in charge.I tried to accept your reason, but I can't. YOU'RE WRONG. When Obama said "let's not jump into conclusion until all facts are in", his train of thought is POLITICS. He should have said: "Let's pray for our great loss" and ask for a "national grieving". If Pelosi's train of thought is not POLITICS only, she would postpone ramming her PelosiCare in the Congress today ... and instead, she would lead the Congress to heed for a national prayer instead. It's not about Politics. It's about 12 dead Soldiers .... by all Americans, regardless of political affiliation.
Well I certainly agree with you on Obama for sure. I am just worried that both President Bush and Vice President Cheney are involved in many issues that will come back and bite us when President Palin is President and both President Obama and Vice President Biden are involved in every little thing she does. Keep in mind being former President is 100 percent easier than being President.
I respect you opinion and you could be right.
More than you can possibly know, W!

I dont believe anything of a humanitarian nature could ever be resented.. Just like Carter’s Habitat for humanity etc. I don’t seriously think we will have to worry about this POTUS going out of his way to do things of kindness like visit bereaved.
I think it is a different matter when they are being statesmen & spokespeople w/o govt okay & sanction. What Carter was famous for ... and that I do resent. He would travel the world, belittling our country & did this on his own.
That is wrong. Being a tourist, lecturer is part of the perks of the after office times I believe.
I know you are right however, I do tend to think it is okay for us.. but not them.. LOL.. even with my qualifications listed.
President Bush is a Texan and a private citizen. This massacre happened in Texas. He had every right if not an obligation to visit the wounded.
Starwise, THANK YOU for the ping!! My husband told me that PRESIDENT George W Bush and Mrs Bush visited Ft. Hood but I had not heard this on TV. I KNEW I’d find a report on FR!
Thanks, too, for the pics you posted. I just LOVE the “Protector” photo!! God bless W and Laura.....they have compassion and, I believe, a true respect and love for our military members and their families. They understand and are grateful for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for the rest of us.
You’re most welcome, 4.
As a compassionate human being and a former
President with such a close bond with our
troops and deservedly much beloved by them,
he is free to do all the good he wishes. And
I’m sure he will continue to do so.
I can just imagine how moved and lifted those
troops at Fort Hood were to see him extend his
personal time and support for them. It was such
a wonderfully kind outreach.
He probably has a personal relationship with
many of the military there, being so close and
having been at that base often.
Pres. Bush has never and WILL NEVER tarnish the
name or reputation of America or purposely joust
with a sitting president.
Remember? He’s one of the good guys.. the BEST ..
he was raised right. He’s NOT an arrogant,
narcissistic CarterClinton fool, taking pleasure in
knocking Pubbie leaders or stooping to ingratiate
themselves to foreign countries by apologizing for
and criticizing this great nation.
And Carter’s supposed to be so Christian, right ?
It’s easy to see who lives their real Christian values.
God bless Pres. George W. Bush and dear Laura.
