Texan police officer Kim Munley who shot Fort Hood gunman hailed as a heroine

A police officer who intervened to stop a shooting spree at America's biggest military base was hailed today a heroine as she received treatment for the wounds received in a shoot-out with the gunman.

Major Nidal Hasan, an army psychiatrist due to be posted to Afghanistan, shot dead 13 people and wounded 30 others after opening fire with two handguns at Fort Hood yesterday afternoon.

But the death toll from the rampage could have been far worse had it not been for the actions of Sergeant Kimberly Munley, a civilian police officer stationed at the base who was the first on the scene as Major Hasan picked off his victims.

Sergeant Munley managed to hit Major Hasan four times but was herself hit by a bullet that passed through both her legs, according to witnesses.

Colonel John Rossi, briefing reporters at Fort Hood this morning, said that Major Hasan's victims, who were killed in a part of the base used to process soldiers for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan, had all been unarmed. Sergeant Munley had been the first armed person on the scene and had immediately taken him on.

"Her efforts were superb," he said

From the article: Her Twitter biography reads: "I live a good life ... a hard one, but I go to sleep peacefully @ night knowing that I may have made a difference in someone's life.

Thank you Sgt. Munley, you made a difference in the lives of many yesterday.

Bump for a courageous servant.

This is not the first time that a brave lady stood up in the face of such adversity.

I recall that shooing in that Colorado church.

"It seemed like it was me, the gunman, and God," said Jeanne Assam, describing her feelings as she confronted a man who charged into her Colorado Springs church Sunday firing a weapon.

How sad, I hadn't heard that.

Of course you hadn't heard that- about the real victims, like the pregnant soldier who was killed -

the REAL victim is the islamofacist jihardist - get with the program. s/

Not smart to post a photo of this hero. Ask Salmon Rushdie...

Bronze Star, at least.

This was a combat action against an enemy infiltrator.

I had a thumb cracked and a toe broken by a Texas woman ... you don’t want to pi$$ them off.

I suspect Sgt. Munley will say she was just doing her job. REAL heros don’t think they are.

And remember how some in the media treated her? They tried to make her out to be some religious zealot who’d gotten kicked off a full-time police force. That was over the top for even most of the press, so it was quietly dropped.

She was a civilian.

Sgt is her police rank.

I kind of think Amber Bahris cute in a “wish I had kids like that” way. Although I don’t have kids.

There was only one hijacker on the plane that missed the capitol on 9-11. Seems to me one terrorist can do a whole lot of damage!

Munley is not guilty and Bahr is too young for me. She is a cute kid. Okay, she would probably hate that.

Excellent point, McGee! This was not a terrorist act it, was an act in the war our PC fools in media and politics refuse to acknowledge. Islam is out to kill as many Americans as they can and this Hassan pig was killing Ameircan soldiers in his little theater of war serving his demon allah. How many practicing Mooselimbs do you suppose there are in the U.S. Military? How many of those are potential jihadists like this pig, Hassan?

“Fort Hood Suspect Remains in Coma (Nasty little 5.7x28)”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2380166/posts

“The initial investigation shows that Hasan allegedly used only one gun during the attack — a 5.7-caliber semiautomatic pistol.”

20-30 round magazine so I read and three come with the pistol.

The military/police issue of the ammunition is supposed to defeat body armor. Civilians aren’t supposed to have access to that.

Even so, the round is designed for penetration. In a crowd, a killing round might go through the body and wound one or more others. In a crowd, a wounding round might go through an arm or shoulder and kill someone else.

Even using 9mm, those who carry are warned to be careful about over penetration using full metal jacket ammo, and accidently hitting an innocent bystander.

I read that thread, that pistol is very strong evidence that this was an attack, not just another distraught shooter story.
