Fort Hood shooting suspect, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, wanted out of the Army after being constantly harassed by others in the military and was called a "camel jockey," his family said.
As Hasan was about to be deployed to Iraq, he was suffering from some of the same stresses that he was trained as an Army psychiatrist to treat.
Although the 39-year-old had just been promoted to major in May, his family says he had hired a lawyer to help him get out of the Armed Forces.
"Apparently became very disgruntled in the mission in Iraq and Afghanistan and voiced that to a lot of his colleagues," said Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX).
He also voiced it to the world in an Internet posting, where he compared suicide bombers to GI's who save their colleagues by throwing themselves on a grenade.
"Just keep in mind mass killers pretty much know they want to die and they tend to take as many people with them as they can in a shooting," said former FBI agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett, who also believes Hasan didn't want to survive the Ft. Hood shooting.
"It is one of those things where he went and wanted to kill a lot of people and commit suicide maybe in his own mind that he's saving peoples' lives," said Garrett. "As illogical as that sounds, in his mind, that would be quite logical."
Hasan is an American citizen of Palestinian descent and after the 9/11 attacks, his cousin says he was the target of constant harassment from others in the military. His tormentors called him a "camel jockey," said his cousin, Nader Hasan. He wanted out of the Army, so he paid back his military student loans and hired an attorney.

We need to flood the news papers and networks with complaints about this BS. We also need to complain about them saying, "suspected shooter", "alleged shooter". He isn't suspected or alleged, he IS the shooter with out a doubt.
Did I read correctly that he was 39? He has never married and is doing Muslim Match.com via his Imam? There might be more wrong with him besides just being a murdering terrorist...
Duplicitous, apologist, bed-wetter drivel. Not a word of this is true, except that this bat-crap pansy didn’t want to go to Iraq.
Where is a good blanket party when you need one?
We are constantly called TEA-BAGGERS. Do we now have a reason to shoot up the entire MSM and the LEFT??
Growing up, I was also called WOP and Dago. Who cares??
WOW..SO HE KILLED 13 AND INJURED 30 BECAUSE OF A NAME.
CAN YOU SMELL THE BS BEING THROWN BY THE MSM.
I think the family are damned liars. Of course there going to give excuses, equating calling a person a camel jockey to murdering 13 innocent people.
Same. I haven’t heard the term in about 15 years.
Anyway, haven’t we all been called infidel dogs at this point?
Carthage must be destroyed.
“”””he wants a woman that will clean his house, give him sex, have his kids, raise his kids and not talk back to him””””
Well, when you say it like that.....
“SUSPECTED”?
This “good American” received a half a million dollar education and a mid six-figure salary on our dime to come out with the under-developed character and intellect of a six year old. I'm somewhat disappointed in our vetting process for such a widely praised government program.
In the real world, medical school aspirants are screened for the possibility that they are unstable as the workload for a medical student can push some over the edge. Our so-called military experts are dropping the ball it seems.
I’ve been called worse. I still have yet to kill anyone.
Sirhan Sirhan was a Pali too.
Drop him on the ice and call him puck.
I don't defend anyone calling this man names. My point is to say I'd imagine those who are most critical of his being called such things are the same ones who think it's fine to call a black conservative anything they'd like and they do.
Skip if he’s behind a ski boat ...
Don’t be misled, guys.
The headline of this article says more about how ABC journalists view Americans than anything else.
Does ABC mean that since the shooter allegedly was called a “camel jockey” that this explains shooting a bunch of soldiers? ABC wouldn’t shed a crocodile tear for American soldiers, don’t kid yourself. If a Republican was president, they would be playing up the anti-war angle instead of the “so called” racism of American soldiers.
Think about it. A Muslim military member shouting “Allah Akbar” shoots 43 soldiers on a military base AND THE STORYLINE for ABC is the ALLEGED RACISM of American soldiers?
Think about that.
The MSM isn’t just “liberal” it’s actively against America.
Every story they (MSM) reports twists the active duty soldier into a bad light. That’s aggression people.
ABC is just as much the enemy as any terrorist. Because ABC is trying to defeat the will of the American people by demoralizing the families of soldiers who first had to suffer the loss of their son or daughter and then hear them impugned on national TV as possible racists. There is very scant mention on ABC of the shooter shouting “Allah Akbar”.
ABC did not do this on accident.
Did you notice the lack of emotion in his cousin. At first I thought the guy was a hoax-ter.
If he was legit, I now believe he had foreknowlege of the attack. He was on the air waaay to quickly.
LOL! We are fellow sufferers. Do you realize that we are part of one of the smallest minorities in the human race? We better organize and get sumptin’ for ourselves—LOL!
Let me say that again for the leadership hiding in DC....Jihad!
Wake up Reid, Pelosi, Boxer et al to the fact that they don't like you either even though you are selling us out.
There is a growing defensive press subtext that he was “picked on”....
This guy hated us and wanted to kill us, simple and clear, because we would not listen to his diatribes on converting to Islam and wrongness of war.
Shame on the system for letting this happen

He told his family this and they repeated it. Why is it that editors like those on this ABC story treat the comments of one muslim on the same authoritative plane as if they had been spoken by Jesus Christ?
The “cousins” pap was just too pat, covered every talking point like it was off a checklist. Reminded me of how Morris Dees SPLC pulled over to the side of the road to go live on NPR on his cell phone after OKC.
It’s a shame I didn’t think about calling in, claiming to be a niece raped by this terrorist, I could have read from a script too.
