SNIPPET: “(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Thursday afternoon a mass shooting took place at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. MyFoxDFW in Dallas reports that at least seven people were killed and as many as 20 have been injured.
Fort Hood is the largest U.S. military installation in the world and the only two-division post in the country, serving as the home of the 1st Calvary Division and First Army Division West. According to the 2000 Census, there are 33,711 people, 5,819 households and 5,679 families living at Fort Hood. The base, initially a camp, was established in 1942 during World War II to fight against the German blitzkrieg. It has deployed troops during the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Shield and a number of humanitarian efforts over the years.
After Sept. 11, 2001, Fort Hood focus shifted to the war on terrorism.”
