Forget the 2-1 Spin; It Was a Rout

The Democrats did not lose a 2-1 squeaker last night. They lost two huge races, saw an overall evaporation of 25 basis points of support -- and lost by nearly 500,000 cumulative votes in the three high-profile elections.

Or put another way, Republicans won two races decided by millions of voters -- and Democrats won a small race dominated by party operatives. In addition, the GOP made some historic gains in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Washington state special elections to boot.

In the context of Bob McDonnell's huge win in Virginia and Chris Christie's surprisingly comfortable win in New Jersey, of all places, the fact that Bill Owens scraped up enough votes to win NY-23 is a testament to the superior political insider maneuvering of the Democrats over the Republicans. So you mean the GOP party apparatus stinks? Well yes, but I think we knew that already.

Hoffman's loss takes a bit of sheen off the night. Having said that, a single race involving roughly a hundred thousand voters in odd circumstances

Anyone know how many early write-in votes were cast for Scozzafava before she was exposed for what she is?

Two more GOP governors.
Two more Democrat Representatives in Washington.
I report, you decide.

Hoffman’s a goofy-looking fella that practically nobody knew until recently, and he still performed well on election day. It wouldn’t surprise me a bit to find him running next November in teh actual mid-term election and taking the seat.

He’s now got the time to fund raise and put together a broad base of support and have some of his people twist a few arms at the RNC for their support, both verbally and financially. Hoffman wasn’t denied, he was just delayed.

“Two more GOP governors.

You are correct in what I believe is your assumption.

Conservative Governors are fine if you live in their state, but the real prize is the national elections. In Washington, they can trump any governor.

There is no way to put a shine on that sneaker ... the loss in NY and California by Conservative/Repub to Dems was a big loss.

I don’t know what happened in Washington State but in PA the GOP took control of the State Supreme court and won other key judicial races.
