Kerry, Graham, Lieberman announce a "dual track" on the climate bill
Washington Post ^ | 11/4/09 | David Fahrenthold

Posted on 11/04/2009 1:07:04 PM PST by Mozilla

Even before a Senate committee could begin marking up the "Kerry-Boxer" climate bill, Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) himself announced a new "track" of negotiations over climate policy that makes his original bill look somewhat irrelevant.

Kerry, appearing at the U.S. Capitol with Sens. Lindsay O. Graham (R-S.C.) and Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.), said the three legislators would work with business groups and the White House to forge a compromise climate measure that could get 60 votes in the Senate.

These negotiations would be separate from the work that six different Senate committees are doing on climate legislation, including the markup that the Environment and Public Works committee was supposed to begin Tuesday, the senators said. Republican committee members, demanding more Environmental Protection Agency analysis of the bill's impacts, are boycotting that markup, so progress on the legislation has stalled.

Kerry said that the senators were not circumventing that committee's process or ignoring the bill being marked up -- which bears his name, along with that of Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.). "We're going to take the best [of the bill the committee produces], and we're going to build on it," he said.

Kerry gave few details about when he and the other senators would be done with their work. "When and how it becomes a piece of legislation will be determined by Harry Reid," he said.

Kerry, Graham and Lieberman offered few details about the elements of a climate bill they considered non-negotiable. Graham said that the bill should protect the climate, but also allow for more offshore drilling, an expansion of nuclear energy and an emphasis on "clean coal" technology.

“When and how it becomes a piece of legislation will be determined by Harry Reid,” he (Kerry) said.”

John F. Kerry’s supreme confidence that the passage of this bill is all but assured with Harry Reid’s wheeling and dealing means that he discounts the will of the American public. These senators along with the rest of the K Street whoremongers have sold us out to the K Street whores, global corporate interests and world goverment through the United Nations. Kerry demonstrated his loyalty to this country and those who serve with their full measure decades ago when he cavorted with SDS leaders and anti-war/anti-American protestors and denounced the actions of our troops in battle. Now, Kerry is swift-boating us to the tyranny of cap and trade taxes under the United Nations and Graham and Lieberman are along for the ride to put a benevolent face on legislation which will penalize our economy while rewarding China, India and third-world nations. I used to believe that our government was looking out for average working families, but after watching the Congress and several presidents allow unchecked illegal immigration, the repeal of Glass Steagle, the flow of jobs overseas and the influx of tainted, toxic, tariff-free goods into our stores, the double-speak about the dangers of Islamic fundamentalism (not just radical Islam), it is apparent that our leaders are leading us to the slaughterhouse for a few pieces of silver.

You are writing some excellent stuff about global warming theory. Keep it up; key people do read it even if you don’t get many responses. I’ll get back to you with a more detailed response when I have some time to read all the material linked to your posts.

Global warming theory is one of the most bizarre things I've even seen in the scientific community. I've never seen such radical, draconian proposals made by scientists with essentially no evidence and almost no lab experiments to support the proposals. The whole thing is surreal.

The Bush administration made a mistake when they argued the case about CO2 regulation in front of the Supreme Court. Instead of attacking the non-existent scientific case for global warming, the Bushies took an economic approach and argued that China and other developing countries would just cancel out any reduced CO2 output from the US for economic reasons. That argument lost in the SCOTUS, unfortunately. The Bushies should have gone after the total lack of a solid scientific foundation for global warming theory. I'm afraid the Bush White House was duped by mediocre scientists at NASA and the EPA who are pushing this theory for their own personal benefit, jobs, fame, and fortune. The Bush White House didn't know that global warming theory is based on some of the same equations originally developed in 1921 which a group of Hungarian scientists have shown to be completely wrong, in addition to dozens of other errors in the climate models. (See Sourcery's post.)

This whole story is a bizarre tale of scientific corruption and incompetence gone wild. In the end, despite the manipulations of global-warming nuts, CO2 output will not start to decline for at least another 10-15 years. Then it will start to decline because of shortages of fossil fuels. So ultimately when the earth's temperature doesn't rise in the next 10-15 years, the global warming climate models will be proven wrong, as any smart honest climate scientist can figure out right now if sufficiently motivated.

I agree, same goes for a honest pol by the name of Issa.
Personally? I'm concerned about both of their health to be perfectly honest.

Think they heard word #1, Phil?
I have my doubts.
Remember, you're only the taxpayer & these clowns --obviously-- work for some other "higher power". Like Gore, for instance? LOL

McCain needs CYA for awhile. HE is up for re-election. Graham isn’t. So Mac can pretend to be almost conservative for a minute or two.

Good call. You are absolutely correct. These two are ham-and-egging it based on their re-elect prospects. The phrase that best applies to them? Pure scum.

I doubt that all the politicians know GW is a hoax. Some know and some don't. The problem is that we still have a cabal of mediocre scientists throughout the world, mostly in academia and government agencies, who are stubbornly holding onto their belief in GW and misleading politicians as they repeat their mistaken beliefs. Most of the GW believers are in denial now, refusing to accept the temperature evidence and the truth that they are mediocre scientists who did shoddy statistical work on the history of CO2 levels and temperature, and never did enough high-quality lab experiments to verify the basic equations underlying GW theory.

The politicians have been snookered by the scientists on GW theory, and ultimately a lot of politicians are going to be really angry at that cabal of mediocre scientists who mislead them.
