In the midst of New York's 23rd District race, a disturbing amendment allowing inmates to volunteer for non-profits was given the thumbs up from New York voters by an overwhelming 67 percent. According to the New York Times, The amendement would allow New York's State Legislature to write a law allowing prisoners to volunteer at churches, social service groups, and other nonprofit organizations. As of December of 2008, around 60,000 inmates are currently serving time in the state's correctional facilities, according to New York's Department of Correction

It sounds as though they are recruiting for ACORN and SEIU. What are the voters thinking?

I saw this on the ballot yesterday and couldn't believe that anyone would think of something so stupid. But this is NY, which is slowly turning into a banana republic, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. That it won so easily is even more disturbing as it signals a total lack of common sense on the part of those that voted for it.

I entered polling station and this is first I heard of it. My first thought for one second was “prisoners will be required to do something productive.” My immediate second thought: “I can just imagine ACORN, The Muslim Brotherhood, and God knows who else will be all over this.”

I am certain no on had heard any debate on this referendum before, and I am sure that we all shared that initial first thought - most people’s minds never went beyond that though to understand the REAL implications.

Let the voters of NY pay for this nonsense...............................with their lives.

Watch this is a disaster waiting to happen. One of these jerk off criminals will wind up raping and killing another volunteer at one of the organizations they volunteered and that’ll be the end of this law.
