TAMPA - Unwanted nonnative pets ranging from shy hedgehogs to lumbering boa constrictors can be handed over with no questions asked this weekend at an amnesty event sponsored by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The program is offered only a few times a year in cities across the state. Saturday's event at Busch Gardens is co-sponsored by the city of Plant City.

Pretty interesting how much of a problem these nonnative pets are becoming. Very similar to the illegal immigration problem.

Similar in what way. People keep exotic pets by choice, don’t they? Ever keep an illegal alien by choice?

Ever keep an illegal alien by choice? Lots of people hire them by choice.
Ever been to a Home Depot?

Can I turn in my Swedish Bikini Team? They sure looked cute in the 1991 Old Milwaukee ad campaign, but its 18 years later and ... well, not so cute. :-).

Ok, so exotic pets aren’t “kept,” they are “hired.” Got it.

Much like exotic non native pets, illegal immigrants wouldn't be here at all if there were not Americans willing to pay MONEY to have them here.

Only difference is the illegal immigrants are cheaper than their native counterpart.
Exotic pets tend to be more expensive...

Ok, so exotic pets arent kept, they are hired. Got it.As usual, you "got it" backwards:
kept
adjective
2. having the expression of principles, ideas, etc., controlled, dominated, or determined by one whose money provides support: a kept press; a kept writer.
Illegal aliens are kept here by the money.

And as soon as we enforce the laws and go after their employers, illegal labor will be more expensive than native labor, and they will go home when what they came here for (paying jobs) is no longer available to them.
The specter of deporting millions of illegals is a red herring. They didn't need a government program to get here, and they wont need one to go home when they are no longer able to make a living here and repatriate dollars back home.

As soon as is the operative concept of course...
There is a plus now that will help, our native labor force has grown.
The illegal immigrant issue was as much about availability as it was costs.
