There will be a McHugh-type win the Republican primary in 2010 that will retake the seat...Hoffman was a weak choice for a Conservative Star, dull and boring...too many people hitched their wagon to him and we lost a good bit of oomph for a while...magritte

You couldn’t be more wrong. If he didn’t have the Succy fiasco he would have won it. Do you want polished politicians or real people. He was a real person and would have made a great congressman. He’ll be back.

Pray for America’s Freedom

If stinky votes are going to be cast in congress from NY23, it is much better that they come from the dem instead of yet another rino. The libs need to own their bad legislation.

That said, only 49% wanted the dem to win...51% wanted somebody other than the dem. That could bode well for 2010 (barring more 3rd party runs).

Will Owens be up again in 2010? Will Hoffman run again as a Repub?

You’re dead on, he was extremely weak. A decent candidate should take the seat back, especially if Owens sides with Pelosi on Health Care

This is our victory.

WHAT VICTORY? THE SEAT WENT TO A DEMOCRAT.

I think what LOST was the notion that outsider conservatives would impose a hardline conservative on them, versus their local process. Had Hoffman won in a primary as a Republican, he would have likely won this election in this longtime GOP district.... I think the locals said: “Screw you national bigshots. We’ll pick who we want, and here is the result.” ... Hoffman didn’t fit the profile of what wins this district. Then finally he wasn’t exactly Mr. Charisma or much of an orator

Perfect summary, truthseeker. And Rush needs to stop with the "Conservative wins every time it's tried." Conservative POLICY may be good, but it doesn't always work in national ELECTIONS, nor in blue states. Ask Thompson, Santorum, Allen, McClintock, Hunter ...GOLDWATER etc????

This is really a clear statement of the the incompetence of the GOP leadership to field a proper candidate.
Until the GOP prime movers are expelled, I fear repeated mistakes like this one. Bunch of boy children with no bolla. Moderates my butt. Inclusive my a$$. Pandering, self-serving egotists -YUP.

This is disappointing. I thought we had this one. Well, hopefully the dem won’t be as bad as Scuzzabag would’ve been.

HUH? He didn’t vote and she quit.

I know this, you know this ... but some on FR do NOT live in reality ...

Newt did not cause this loss.

Some areas need conservative candidates run, other areas like NEW YORK need moderate candidates run.

Until the GOP and its supporters start laying blame where blame is due for losing elections (WITH THE MEDIA) and taking action, more of the same will continue.

Please correct me if I am wrong but won't there be another election in this district come 11/2010?
So this “may be” a “blessing in disguise”...give Hoffman time to plan a better campaign to win next year's election...

I guess all of NYS is a lost cause. If anywhere, I thought we could have saved some of upstate, but the trash is moving north from NYC.

But at least we'll lose some congressional seats after the census with many leaving the state, so the dems will lose some power to the southern states, and NY won't have as much influence in national issues.

Moderates are OK. Scozzafava is a liberal. She is the mainstream media/White House definition of “moderate” which is “agrees with the Democrats on almost everything”.

Yep this is a temporary filler until the Nov. 10 election. This time there were be a primary and I expect that some established candidates will come forth. Doheny and Maroun combined got 55% in the first round of the selection process. Chances are one of them or someone like them will emerge in the primary for the GOP.

The NY primary is Sept. 10, 2010, so by early summer there should be candidates making noise up there.

That's a good point. But you know Hoffman is going to be a national story now. The grass roots will rally behind him--nevermind that they don't live any where near the district or even in the state.

I'm glad he lost. The GOP deserves to suffer the consequences. It's karma. Had Hoffman won, the GOP would be rewarded, having had their butts pulled out of the fire. Better this way, in the long run. But as you suggest, 2010 could be pretty jokey. I know I wouldnt like outsiders butting into my business.

This race was a cluster... by the GOP.

They put this Liberal POS Arlen Specter Wannabe in there and the masses revolted on the GOP.

So even had that woman Scuzzy-whatever won it would have been a victory of negative (not even zero) proportions because she would have simply become Nancy Pussolini’s best friend.

A Republican gadfly to flaunt in the GOP’s face making it even harder to fight the Liberal Zealots seizing power in this country.

It is painful - but we have to eliminate the cancer of the RINO’s that actively (and disloyally) undermine our best efforts.

Here's the lesson the GOP MUST Learn from this debacle. Address the Democrats as an active threat the this country, but in front of threat - look at ANY and ALL RINO’s as the next Scuzzy laying in wait for their chance to disloyally actively undermine the GOP making all RINO’s an even bigger threat to the country.

All RINO’s are just the next Scuzzy, Specter, etc!!!

Early or absentee voting I would guess
