All politics is local, they say, and Tuesdays off-off-year elections certainly had their local angles. Jon Corzine has been a terrible governor even by the undemanding standards of terribly governed New Jersey. Creigh Deeds, though he looked good to Democratic Party recruiters not long ago, turned out to be an undistinguished campaigner, more driven by the concerns of Washington Post editorialists than of Virginia voters. And NY-23 Republican nomineee Dede Scozzafava was a bizarre choice, bizarre enough to inspire a seemingly quixotic third-party run by Doug Hoffman.
But these local angles werent enough to keep the Obama administration out of the races. President Obama barnstormed Virginia and New Jersey and pumped money and Joe Biden into NY-23 in support of Democratic candidate Bill Owens. (One suspects Owens would have preferred more money and less Biden.)
And until it started looking as if they might lose the Obama people were suggesting that these races would seal their mandate and encourage congressional wafflers to toe the line on health-care reform. Not so much, as it turns out.
In fact, the elections underscored Obamas political weakness just one year after his triumphant victory over Republican moderate John McCain.
The Obama invincibility that was so much in evidence then seems to have lost its power. People can argue the reasons why these elections, all in places Obama carried handily, were so close. But if he were the political marvel he was thought to be, these races wouldnt have been contests, but walkovers. So one consequence of this Election Day is the end of his special political magic.

“special political magic” ain’t shiiiit!
What a great evening!
Fairy dust sprinkled on him by the msm.
And remember Barry endorsed Thompson in the NY Mayoral race and he lost, too.
Obama will push harder than ever to implement his agenda now prior to 2010. They will be desperate.
I hope more people wake up and get fired up prior to 2010 because it will take a HUGE effort to take back congress.
Obamunism is dead here in VA.
Now if the 23rd in NY and the 10th in CA could go conservative that would be a great sweep..
The Magic Negro has lost his touch.
Too bad, so sad.
Yep. SOS we used to hear about Clinton who never got anyone elected except himself.
All those who can should join Michele Bachman on Thrusday when she leads the march on congress for WE THE PEOPLE to have a loud say against this 0bamacare and more of his spending projects.
Dede was a bizzare choice because she was the real 3rd candidate. They pulled it off by saying that she was still on the ballet(not off the ballet or nothing at all). They can’t have Obama losing to a nobody. Just like Perot only not visable.
Obama and Co are still the losers because they are still dirty tricks. That’s the only way they can win is to cheat, lie and steal.
Yeh....that’s the thing about magic.....it fades.....and the first thing to fade is the quotation marks around it
because there’s nothing magical about magic.
By saying at the last minute she was still on the ballet and nothing else; they coded to the people that might not know that she was not running to spoil Hoffman’s chances. Ross Perot move.
Don’t ever trust these commies. They are going to do everything in to book to crush you.
Obama is still the same untrustworty and destroyer of the country.
I hope he is snorting coke and chewing his finger nails.
Obamamania crushed in VA.
America slowly rejecting the False Messiah.
If Obambi thinks this was bad, wait until November 2010.
