NY-23: All of a Sudden, Pessimism at Hoffman HQ
Washington Independent ^ | 11/3/2009 1030 PM | David Weigel

SARANC LAKE, N.Y. – The mood is getting darker at NY-23 Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman’s election party. Results from Jefferson County–Republican territory that John McCain carried–show Owens in the lead. And the Syracuse suburbs–Madison, Oswego, and Oneida County–are not showing the blowouts that early polling suggested. The first results from Oswego show Hoffman at 2800, Owens at 2000, and Scozzafava at 324. The final Siena poll had Hoffman leading Democrat Bill Owens by a margin of 51 percent to 28 percent in this region.

I asked Hoffman’s spokesman Rob Ryan for a reaction, and he suggested that it was hard to know the trends without knowing which wards the votes were coming from. That’s true, but it’s significantly less optimism than Ryan was projecting earlier tonight.

Serious?

That news story says only about 4000 votes are counted in oswego county, there were more voters than that in my small oswego county town.

Exit polls are notoriously false. They are intended more to urge voters to either stay home or turn out.

I consistently lie to exit pollers and urge others to do so as well.

I think Hoffman will win too. But they won’t blame the GOP, they will blame Palin and Beck....

If Hoffman loses it will only be by a few thousand votes, not exactly a devastating loss, he came outta nowhere and did very well, Dede should be kicked in the ass though.

Good link.

Looks like Owens has pretty well shot his bolt. This is going to be a close call.

Hasn’t been closer than 3 points all night, 31% still outstanding, but given this trends has held all night, unless some big R districts precints are outstanding......

Either way taking out a RINO is better than having a D with an R beside her name you can never count on.

6% voted for Scuzzyvino, which shows the percentage of Feminist Lezzivinos in NY.

Scuzzy getting 6%. If Hoffman loses by less than that (looking likely), then this loss rests square on the shoulders of the morons runnin the GOP who spent about $1m against Hoffman.

FU Steele and Newt!

Hoffman ran as an independent. Why would the RNC spend a dime? RNC money is reserved for Republican candidates.

FNC reported earlier that many towns in NY-23 were adament that they were NOT going to report results on the internet, they were NOT going to report results early, they were going to messenger the results to Albany, or the AP can come to their towns in the morning and get the results.

That attitude does not sound like the kinds of things I'd expect to hear from a conservative district (that hasn't elected a Democrat since the Civil War) that is being run by Republicans. It sounds like something I'd hear from Democrats who are holding back in order to find out how many votes they need to manufacture.

What's going on in that district? Who's in charge?

Is this a part of the Demcorat "Operation Secretary of State" where the election apparatus has been taken over by Democrats in otherwise Republican districts?

But when leftist Dede dropped out they turned out for him at the last minute. Did an ad for radio that didn’t even mention him. Also a majority of Republicans endorsed Hoffman and told him to run. This race to me is turning out a sign of the problems within the party. Yet, it is close and anything is possible.
