WASHINGTON (AFP) Wednesday marks one year since Barack Obama was elected America's first black president swept to power on a promise of change, but it will be just another day for the US leader battling a deep recession and two wars.
On November 4, 2008, Obama was feted by a joyous crowd during his victory speech in a Chicago park after beating Republican John McCain to the White House in an election that promised to reshape his nation.
But 12 months on the administration has no plans to celebrate Obama's historic victory, perhaps sensing there is little appetite for a party amid the worst US recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s.
...
The first anniversary since his election comes as the unemployment figures for October are set to be unveiled on Friday. ...
"We anticipate that we're going to continue to see some job losses in the weeks and months to come," Obama stressed Monday.
He highlighted that the actions taken by his government had "helped to stem what could have been a disastrous situation for the economy," adding "we are starting to see stabilization and indeed some improvement."
But he acknowledged that "we are still seeing production levels that are significantly below peak levels. And most distressing is the fact that job growth continues to lag."
Another of his key platforms, health care reform, has been bogged down in testy negotiations in Congress, but there is hope that a landmark deal could be reached before year's end. That would prove a real coup, after successive administrations struggled unsuccessfully with the issue.
Abroad, Obama's policy of engaging US foes has so far yielded few breakthroughs, although the promise of his fledgling presidency won him the Nobel Peace Prize last month.

What? No Party for Obama? That’s shocking.
Should read "swept to power by a juggernaut of MSM-DNC lies..."
Psalm 2009 From the FIRST BOOK OF GOVERNMENT Obama is the shepherd I did not want. He leadeth me beside the still factories. He restoreth my faith in the Republican party. He guideth me in the path of unemployment for his party’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the bread line, I shall fear no hunger, for his bailouts are with me. He has anointed my income with taxes, My expenses runneth over. Surely, poverty and hard living will follow me all the days of my life, And I will live in a mortgaged home forever. I am glad I am American, I am glad that I am free. BUT...... I wish I was a dog ... And Obama was a tree.
Well, I flushed the toilet: isn’t that sufficient?
Well, I flushed the toilet: isn’t that sufficient?
I am too busy puking over his lies...
Just Fyi, I was traveling in Florida the other day and stopped at a turnpike rest stop,, A pickup had a very nicely done sign in his window which said “Obamma is a liar”
a group of young students had stopped and there were two “girls” who started weeping over the sign, the ownwer got out of the truck and said, deal with it, its true..I laughed so hard and congratulated the owner on a well done sign...hehehehehe..happy 1st year Uh_bummer...Maybe you should get a Lincoln bedroom party going with bawny Frank, Pelosi,& Reid ..
Morons, all.
I’m too old so I don’t know these things...that man is doing drugs. Big time...what KIND is my question...
The Emperor has no clothes, or birth certificate.
This means is is only three more years before somebody ELSE may be elected in his place.
Impeachment is highly unlikely, and the possibility at this point he might resign is pretty remote. After all, then we would get Joe Biden as Acting President, and though that may be seen as an improvememt, we move from abysmally horrible to only dismally bad.
But still lost somewhere in a fever swamp.
Ahhh yes. The Nobel "Promise Peace" Prize. Or the Nobel "Peace Promise" Prize. Or the Nobel Peace Prize For Promise. Or the...
His acceptance speech will define many aspects of his future foreign policies. It will also be seen by many as the punch line of a bad joke. This will not help him because the time frame between his "win" and the majority of Americans that scoffed at it's initial announcement and his actual acceptance has ensured that Obama would dither on Afghanistan and Iraq to the noticeable detriment of the troops and the American public's confidence in his CIC ability.
This "win" only ensured that Obama would become impotent in regards to forceful foreign policy so as to not disappoint his world fan club. And that is a dangerous combination that can only lead to failure of our national interests because vanity is not what a CIC should have in making such decisions.
And yes I know he is essentially doing what he planned anyhow but he isn't the final arbiter on the assessment.
Wow, a year already?
Only feels like ten.
Actually Wednesday marks one year since Baruk 0bozo was elected Amerika's first AFFIRMATIVE ACTION pres___ent, with no executive or leadership qualifications to begin, and a littered path of socialist bailout, gubmint hostile takeovers, nightmarish bankrupt spending programs, waste, unbelieveable corruption, thuggish, totalitarian tendancies, 10% unemployment, apologizing for Amerika to every muzzie he can think of, bowing before a muzzie king, and generally just being a complete buffoon, asswipe, & incompetent idiot.
Just needed to expound on 0bozo's real "accomplishments" in the last year since Amerika elected its first commie pig pres____ent 0bozo. Even his face is constantly evil!!!
Katnip?
Wonder if anyone ever told him he has funny looking ears?
:-)
Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket. It's the recession that has us demonstrating in the streets, not 0bama. Oh, no, never 0bama.
MMMMM MMMMM MMMMM
You mean to tell me Michelles wearing a costume here!?! NO WAY!! This woman wears table-cloths and shower-curtains for dresses and THIS is a costume?
