I'm passing these two observations from liberal Virginia bloggers on to readers, but they're so out of line with expectations, I have a hard time buying them.
First, from Not Larry Sabato, about the Virginia delegate races: "SIX SEATS ARE GONE ANOTHER NINE ARE IN PLAY FOR GOP PICKUP." Yesterday I predicted a GOP gain of six seats; I think most Virginia Republicans saw picking up 11 as their best-case scenario.
Then, from Blue Virginia:
I'm a bit skeptical of this, so take it with as big a grain of salt as you'd like, but it's from an excellent source. They got exit poll results from a precinct in Arlington that went 60%+ for Kaine in '05. With around 250 voters sampled over a 5-hour period this morning, McDonnell is up 22 points on Creigh Deeds. WTF? I mean, if that's even CLOSE to being true, it's horrible. Also, even if it gets better through the day, we're talking about possible margins in Arlington of less than 60% possible for Deeds. For comparison purposes, Tim Kaine got 74% of the vote in Arlington in 2005.
Are these two trying to motivate lethargic Democrats? Or is there really evidence of a building Republican wave in northern Virginia?
I hope Barbara Comstock gets in! i don’t live in that particular district but saw them trashing her on TV ads for being prolife etc. Would love the libs to have to EAT THAT!
Just like always. Liberal sources can’t be trusted.
seeing McDonnell signs in the peoples republic of Falls Church FLOORED me the last few weeks.
I don’t know. I get the same feeling about the upcoming Senatorial race that I did about the past six Gubernatorial races. The Democrats ran pathetic hacks and the Republicans ran presentable non entities, winning five in row, until Coupe de Valle ended the streak last year.
The Republican front runner for Senate, Scott Brown, is a moderate, a la Romney, not Soffacozza (I refuse to learn how to spell her name). Whomever emerges from the Democratic Primary will be a miserable hack, most likely Martha Coakley. She’s also burdened with public distaste over the electoral law shennagigans to get a Kennedy coat holder to serve out his term. Very few people in Massachusetts want to nationalize RomneyCare.
It could be a Republican this time.
So, does whoever has the admin password for the DU front page still have that "All Your Senate Are Belong To US" graphic? Just curious.
Ya know, Corin, there is just so much deliberate disinformation when it comes to elections & predicting results that I have limited myself to FR today. I know my family here won’t lead me wrong. :o)
Besides, I plan to crack open a cold one tonight, sit back, and enjoy the view of a repub replacing The Roving Monster Brow Kaine!!
I agree natinally the tea leaves are lining up very well for conservatives... And I’d love to see MA realize its time to dump the dems, but wow, if Kennedy’s seat goes to an R? That signifies not just a solid win, but an absolute bloodbath for democrats and liberal republicans in 2010.
If McDonnell is PLUS 22 in Arlington what is he doing in the west PLUS 40? Welcome back Old Dominion!
A few years ago, Mark Warner tried to run a sales tax increase referendum in Northern Virginia.
It failed...miserably.
He and the General Assembly increased taxes anyways.
People in Northern Virginia are not stupid. Yes, they lean towards backing bleeding heart liberals, since after all, Big Government is the main industry here...but, as I said, they aren't stupid, and they are prone to acting in their self-interests on occasion.
And down the street, there was nothing like the turnout for the Presidential. Just a trickle of yuppies.
See, I just think this low turnout is in our favor. I hope I’m right.
Leaving FR, gotta go out for a while. Can’t wait to check back later!!!!
The RATS better hurry-up and start printing more filled-out ballots!
Is Kennedy’s seat on the line today, or not until 2010?
I don’t understand his reasoning there. I hadn’t heard that Wolf was going to step down in the 10th district; he’s going to win easily now, and I’d expect him to at least serve out his term.
And why take a winning delegate out of the house 2 years after they get in? Wouldn’t we want a more experienced politician to run for Wolf’s seat? I’d expect someone like Bob Marshall, or one of the other long-term delegates, to go after the Wolf seat in 2012 if Wolf decides to retire.

Given ACORN and other ballot stuffing persons, firms and entities I’ll wait until the count is in before celebrating.
Have the same opinion of Sabato. This could be an interesting night for Virginia Republicans that is going to send shock waves through the Congress!
Special Election early next year I believe for Kennedy’s seat, not today.
