Snowe to TPaw: GOP should "borrow" my approach

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) is sending a don't-tread-on-me message to Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty -- dismissing his claim that party moderates need to obey the conservative base -- and suggested her critics "borrow" from her middle-of-the-road model.

Snowe, often the target of the Republican right flank, turned the argument back on the possible 2012 contender -- saying "litmus tests" of Republican candidates will guarantee the party's position as a two-House minority.

Pawlenty, speaking early Monday on MSNBC, said many Republicans were "mad" at Snowe for working with the Democratic majority on health care -- and suggested there might be a backlash against her is she had more "deviations" from conservative GOP orthodoxy.

"I've been a lifelong Republican -- I haven't changed, I don't know what the problem is -- I really don't," said Snowe, speaking to POLITICO at the Capitol.

Snowe is too buried to her fake eyelashes and caked on makeup to see what is going on in NY-23.

Pawlenty is telling you something Ole' -

Having an R after your name does NOT equate to conservative! YOU are on the way OUT!

I would argue that there is a place for moderates within the Republican Party. The Party needs to be predominantly conservative, but in certain congressional districts, running a moderate Republican is the only way to compete. Let’s be honest, Hoffman wouldn’t win in certain California districts, so its ok to run a more moderate candidate. Maine might not be able to elect a real conservative, though, I imagine we can find alternatives more conservative than Collins and Snowe.

Even if Snowe is right, which she is not, what good would it do to have a GOP majority if the GOP pursues a Liberal Democrat Agenda.

Snowe treats it like a football game where the only thing that matters is that your “team wins”. However for those of us not in congress, we care about the policies not about whose team is in power.

What palnet does Olympia live on? Does she have any constitutional principles at all? Talk about out of touch!

Olympia Snowe is a RINO. Real Conservatives (which created the republican party) would never support the things she supports.

What these RINOs don’t understand is that we’re tired of the liberlism. What is the point of electing a RINO (with our donations no less) that will vote with the liberal dems every time?

If I wanted to elect to a lib, then I would send my money to the dems. If I send my money to the repubs, then I expect a conservative to be running. Our campaign donations should either be put to better use by electing conservatives or our money should not be spent at all.

Yeah she’s a life long ROCKEFELLER republican. The kind of rino we have been trying to get read of for years.

She stood against Reagan and she hands the dems whatever they want. I have long ago written off the blue blood northeast. All of you Bushies just go hide please

OK Olympia, I’ll borrow your approach - I’ll say I am open to your ideas while simultaneously jamming a (rhetorical) knife in your back! Thanks for the suggestion.

If they're going to vote with the Dems, let them be Dems. That way, we don't have to hear this "bipartisan" BS!!!
