Sportscaster must pay ex-wife $916,000 a year

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)—CBS sportscaster Jim Nantz must pay $916,000 yearly in alimony and child support to his ex-wife and give up their Connecticut home under terms of a newly issued divorce decree.

The ruling, made Monday in Bridgeport Superior Court, dissolves the 26-year marriage of Nantz and Ann-Lorraine “Lorrie” Carlsen Nantz. It comes after both testified about the breakdown of their marriage; Judge Howard Owens concluded neither was at fault.

Nantz, described by Owens as “our nation’s most prominent sportscaster,” filed for divorce last year from his wife after years of marriage counseling, according to the decree.

Although Nantz, 50, acknowledged he started dating a 29-year-old woman before the divorce was final, the judge concluded the marriage deteriorated years earlier and “this remote event in no way contributed to the breakdown of the marriage.”

So that means that it’s the woman’s fault EVERY time, right?

Those two things sound to me like a selfish, nasty woman

The claim was that she's a whore. What you said doesn't equate to such.

No, you’re right. “Whore” is not appropriate.

So it took him 26 years to find that out?

“Lorrie Nantz said she went as often as possible, but that those events were not her life’s major interest”

But the $72K a month for LIFE, half his pension, a spare $70K to join a ‘country club’, half of all these other assets that HE generated, etc etc. sure as hell interested her. This is nuts.

Well, if you read the article, the woman wouldn’t even accompany him to the ceremony where he was named “Man of the Year”. He received an oil-painted portrait of himself and she wouldn’t let him hang it in the house - it had to go into storage! Those two things sound to me like a selfish, nasty woman, not the kind of woman you can go to for succor, comfort, or relief.

On the contrary, HE sounds like a whimp to me. I cant hang a picture on my own wall....??? I love my wife but if she were to act like this woman...hahahahahahahahahahaha. I dont think so.

Actually its a touchdown followed by taunting and a beat down. I would suggest that Mr. Nantz would have been much farther ahead to hire a $1,000.00 an hours hooker for each of the 26 years and only been out a bit shy of what ten years without “Lorrie” is going to cost him.

According to another article they were in marriage counseling for 14 years.

She sounds like one of these women who expect the man to be extremely successful, yet spend 100% of his attention on her.

Not what I am saying at all.

I just feel bad for my friend in his particular situation.

This "916K a year in alimony and child support" story sounds like something that my friend's wife would throw at him should he try to exit the mental/emotional brutality that they call a "marriage."

Obviously the part about the 29 year old girlfriend probably added to their problems, but some (note I did not say all) women turn into real cash-grabbers at divorce court hearings.

Such is the potential case with my friend.

I wasn't looking to start a fight, and I apologize if I offended you.

“I’m never getting married without a prenuptial agreement.”

Not worth the paper it’s typed on. Any divorce judge will simply ignore it, and mandate whatever he thinks the wife is “due”.

For example, my late uncle, who paid his child support and alimony religiously for years. His ex-wife remarried and failed to notify the court, so his alimony checks just kept coming. One day his attorney stumbled on this discovery and got the judge to schedule a hearing. The judge chewed her out for failing to report her remarriage, but did not make her repay the money.

She immediately turned around and filed for an increase in child support equal to the amount she had just lost in alimony, which was immediately granted by a female Family Court judge. He’s gone to a better place now...probably the only way this woman would stop getting checks under our legal system.

Yep, what you said and you can switch the words wife to husband, him to her, and she to he. Toooooo much suffering and the kids often get the worst of it.

Interesting comments and we all have stories of who got screwed, and who deserved it or not. The breakdown of the family unit and the destructive aftermath of divorces are a cancer on our society.

she’s screwing him (using the court system), and she’s getting paid.

how is it not appropriate?

Some (a lot) women are psycho. More so than men. Men psychos are more violent and therefore more easily spotted and avoided. Psycho women play all sweet, then turn when they get what they want. They hold their men hostage with the children or whatever leverage they have.

I don’t know how you are supposed to tell the difference. I fear for my son. He’s only twelve, but still...

We are trying to teach our daughter not to be a psycho beeyatch. She’s only eight, so we have a ways to go. She is a very sweet little girl, but can be a drama queen. Those episodes only last for a minute or two, and then she apologizes.

People change over time. I would wager the most common phrase in marriage counseling is “He/She isn’t the same person I married.”

“I’m never getting married without a prenuptial agreement.”

Do you for one minute think that a pre-nup will stop a liberal feminist on the bench from imposing this crap???
