Conservatives and the GOP: The Danger and Promise of Fire
America's Right ^

Posted on 11/03/2009 8:05:13 AM PST by CJBernard

You want another, more frightening example? If Harry Reid decides it’s worth it--and giving the polls in Nevada he very well might--he’s going to use the reconciliation process to ram the health care proposal through by a simple majority without the chance of a Republican filibuster.

Why can Harry Reid do this? Because he’s the Senate Majority Leader.

Why is he the Senate Majority Leader? Because there are more Democrats in the Senate than Republicans.

You can't get a more conservative Democratic Senator than Ben Nelson of Nebraska. He has supported the mission in Iraq, voted to lower taxes, and he's a member of Democrats for Life of America. But here's an undeniable fact: a vote for Ben Nelson was a vote to give Harry Reid the option of ramming this disastrous health care bill down our throats.

So please don't tell me that parties don't matter just because you think they are awful and they shouldn't. The fact is that they do indeed matter. It doesn't mean our only recourse is to blindly vote for whatever the GOP sends our way, but it does mean that there are costs to blindly voting as if party doesn't matter. It's up to us to find a better way.

No.

We tried this route and it got us the first 6 years under Bush that were just Democrat lite.

I will not vote for a Rino. If the elitists that now run the Republican party want to nominate Rinos, then they won’t get my vote or money.

My vote and money goes to Conservatives.

The best way is to make sure your local party nominates conservatives. Don't fall for the BS line of "I'm a fiscal conservative but a social liberal". That just means RINO. When a vote comes up and the choice is vote the fiscally conservative way or the socially liberal way, a RINO will go socially liberal 99% of the time. The "Big Tent" is a lie!!! If the party is conservative, the tent will expand on its own.

I'm getting sick of the GOP pom-pom wavers blaming the voters for the fact that the establishment GOP created their own mess. Just look at what the mavericks did in NY-23. That is a potent force just waiting to be harnessed. It was there all along, but the Beltway pubbies were more engrossed with their own power and perks than in representing the base. And too many of them still aren't getting the message.

The GOP has been drifting Left for a long time. They have expected me to support people like John McCain, because "he's not as bad" as the Democrat. Well, this approach by the GOP has not worked. The Democrats have all the power, and the GOP establishment hates the Conservative base.

Why don't we change it up? I'll support any Conservative in any party at any time. The GOP needs to drift over into my direction or else go the way of the Whigs.

No more compromises. If the GOP wants power, they can make some changes.

I think that’s what he’s getting at. The GOP is the most feasible political vehicle for conservatism. Rather than scrap it and start from scratch, it’s better to use our expanding voice to make the GOP what we want it to be.

No toleration of RINOs. No toleration of Dems in GOP clothing.

More of the “You better vote GOP or else” crap.

GOP...the Stupid Party.

GOP, the party that nominates the man who destroyed the GOP majority in both houses while the GOP had the White House.

GOP, the party that nominated McCain...who couldn’t beat a no body from Chicago with less time in the Senate than I have in the restroom.

GOP, the party that tried to destroy the one person who attracted votes to the presidential ticket. Yes, people voted FOR Sarah, not just against Obama.

GOP, the party that endorses a politician with views opposite the party platform who subsequently resigns from the race and endorses her Democratic opponent. And takes the GOP money with her.

The GOP, the party that tolerated the RINOs that turned against them during critical votes and refused to support challenges to the incumbents. Hey, once you’re in office as a GOP, it doesn’t matter what you do anymore, how liberal you get, the GOP will still support you in the name of the Big Tent.

Yea, let’s remember how important it is to vote GOP. /s

The only way to get leadership with integrity is to be voters with integrity...

If I can’t positively support a candidate and his/her positions, I will not vote for him/her.

I will not blindly vote ‘R’ because he/she is not a ‘D’ — it’s not my job to ‘support the party’ (I mean, how Junior High School Football is that??). It’s the party’s job to put forward candidates that I can support - or they don’t get my vote.

Period.

I do not care how bad things have gotten or how bad they will get, I will not for one second feel any sorrow that McCain lost. I feel like crap that Obama won, but could really care less that McCain lost. I voted against Obama. I was frankly embarrassed that a vote against Obama went to McCain. In fact it drove me close to puking. The only saving grace to my vote against Obama (remember, under no circumstances was my vote for McCain) was that I was voting for Palin. Never, ever for McCain. I will never do so again. For what? So the GOP can support RINOs like Scozzafva? The Democrats can have a 75 seat majority and I would not care if people like Scozzafava are the Republican vanguards. If Scozzafa, Graham and other spineless RINOs are in, the Dems have 70 or more votes anyway.

Not only that but it provides cover for them when they want to media to portray their bills and policies as receiving bipartisan support. There is just no up side.

Rush used to use this example on why we should not vote third party and vote for the Republican no matter what: Allen Cranston was the Democrat Senator from California, with a RINO running against him sometime in the 1980s (can’t remember his name). The conservatives stayed home and didn’t vote, so Allen Cranston got re-elected. The Repubs subsequently lost the Senate, and when Judge Bork’s nomination came up for a vote, of course he got defeated.

I haven’t heard him mention this example in a while, but my point is what’s the gain in electing a RINO like Snowe or Collins or Chaffee? What guarantee would we have that the RINO would have voted for Bork? Arlen Specter didn’t vote for him, so what good is it to have a RINO in there?

from wikipedia

In 1974, Cranston defeated Republican H.L. “Bill” Richardson, a conservative state senator previously affiliated with the John Birch Society. Cranston polled 3,693,160 votes (60.5 percent) to Richardson’s 2,210,267 (36.2 percent).

In 1980, Cranston defeated Republican Paul Gann, 4,705,399 (56.5 percent) to 3,093,426 (37.1 percent).

Dam the party!

If the candidate is a conservative with a record of such, I give money and vote.

If they claim to be conservative with no proof, I might take a chance and vote for them but they get no money .

Fine. Wanna stop this? Its simple. Start cooperating with conservatives instead of attacking us. Do things our way. It doesn’t have to be everything, but it darn well needs to be 50% or more. Otherwise, the beatings will continue until GOP comes to heel.

If the republicans want to keep the fire from consuming them they need to make sure of certain things. Tell all the so-called “moderates” to shut up. No more Pansy Grahamnesty or Lying Mitt Romney.

When the democrats trot immigration out there, Graham and McCain need to take long vacations. Not a word should be heard from either of them.

Any “republican” seen as supporting crap and tax needs to disappear permanently.

Any moderate “pundit” that thinks they need to start spewing their garbage should be considered democrats trying to destroy the republican party and they should take personal responsibility for whatever happens next.

In all honesty, it is the country clubbers who have brought this upon themselves. They go socialist while they ask us to have restraint. We are the ones who are always asked to wait and be patient. They tell us vote for this RINO idea now and later you’ll get what you want. I believe them about as much as I believe the democrats which is not at all. If the RINOs and DIABLOs can’t restrain their own mouths and their socialist ideas, then they shouldn’t expect us to restrain ourselves in the ballot booth.
