I'm not sure about this particular model.

Miniature detonating cord built into the canopy. It's a one step operation: it you want to leave, pull the lever, and the seat goes through where the canopy used to be a split second before.

..one of my cube mates was a weapons guy who inadvertently shot down a parked c-130....they were checking a rocket pod...it went like this “check=check check=check check=WHOOOOSH..???..SH*T...it was a great shot though...2.75 went through the bottom of a light-all...ricocheted off the crown of the runway...and through the tail section of the 130...and lodged itself downtown on the top floor of a hospital......

Ok, but there must be a safety built in somewhere(isn't there?).

Pretty good idea how that happened. Some outfits used preloaded LAU launchers. We never did because of that possibility. Of course in combat operations, everything goes.

The location of the eject handles are well known to pilots.

Putting in extra steps means extra time when there may well be less than zero available time for dithering.

The first picture is actually funnier.

“Here, Joe. The Vice President gets his very own big boy seat waaay over here all by himself.”

Doogle........not directed at you...

No one grabs the ejection seat levers without thinking it through.....I it know I have done the training and flown for years this is a crazy report.

The "safety device" is located between the operator's ears.

Ya keeps yer grubby mitts away from the yellow-and-black handles ...

Unless, of course, you really mean it.

Then, you grab 'em like your life depends on it ... because it does. You won't have time to screw around with mechanical "safety" latches.

This is NOT a ride you want to go on, unless you've totally run out of other options. At that point, time is rather of the essence.

BS, it would be no harder to make a safety that was easy to reach and take off, and would not interfere or slow down the pilot/copilot than it is to put one on a gun. If they are not going to put safeties on them, then they need to never give rides to idiots who can pull the handle without several hours of training on how not to grab the ejector handle.

Hey my dad was your neighbor for a while. Korat, 67-68. And in keeping with this thread, he had to eject out of an F-86 Sabre. Not a fun ride according to him.

It was a tough one for my dad and he still has black paint embedded in his arm. But the silver lining, he landed on my grandfathers ranch, met my mother and had me!!!

I don't get it. The guy wanted to go flying, he went flying. What's he complaining about? The landing? I mean, did you ever hear anybody say "I want to go landing?" I rest my case.

And that other handle marked "landing gear." It has an Up and a Down position. That means it's optional, right? Sheesh...
