A passenger enjoying a civilian joyride accidentally cut the trip short when he ejected himself from the plane after grabbing the eject lever while trying to brace himself.

I’m not familiar with it, but I would believe it. If the AC got stuck on full hot, it was an emergency procedure. Don’t remember what the steps were for dealing with it...

The fault lies with engineering, not the passenger. The eject button was disguised as a cigarette lighter.

They should have never let this guy design it in the first place.

Probably 100 meters which would be 328 feet. Rounded down rather than up.

Let me tell you...if that were me pulling that lever the newspaper headline could just as well have read “Man pulls lever, craps pants”.

How did they measure 320 feet?

320 feet = 100 meters in jolly old England.

Did they show you that picture of the debris on the hangar roof that used to be an airman?

Ok, this story sounds phony. First of all there are safety devices on the ejection buttons/levers. Secondly, there is the small matter of a canopy between the pilot/passenger and the outside world. Blasting through the canopy would be fatal to most people. The canopy has to be blown off, then several other procedures have to occur(depending on the model of aircraft)before you can eject.

Accidental discharge? I think not.

Some aircraft have seats that go though the canopy. I’m not sure about this particular model.

I would think it would be “approximately 300+ feet into the air”.

More likely it would be “approximately 100 mteres into the air”, and an editor thought “approximately 328 feet” looked slightly odd and made a revision.
