Barack and Michelle Obama: Mr&Mrs show irks voters

As political woes mount, not all have been won over by the first couple’s intimate revelations

Tony Allen-Mills in Washington

With difficult state elections and a crucial military decision looming, President Barack Obama sat down with his wife Michelle last month to give an in-depth magazine interview about a subject that has hitherto not ranked highly on the White House political agenda — the state of the first couple’s marriage.

The president used the occasion to complain that when he recently hopped aboard Air Force One to fly his wife to New York for dinner and a Broadway show, “people made it into a political issue”.

Obama went on to insist that his marriage was “separate and apart from a lot of the silliness of Washington”. He then proceeded to discuss his romantic ups and downs in startling detail with a reporter from The New York Times Magazine.

I don’t think they like each other. They never look at each other unless it’s a photo opportunity.

I bet she can eat Venus Williams for lunch. Won’t surprise me if Zero is found to be a battered spouse.:-)

That would make a good segment on Oprah :)

— at a time when many Americans continue to lose their homes or jobs every month.

I believe Rush Limbaugh , Obama's policies are intentional to result in economic trouble for US. The quality of life, loss of personal savings have impacted everyone.

The parties and jetting around they both do is like mocking us.

How I missed Michelle on the cover of Glamour magazine (as mentioned in this article) I’ll never know.

GAG. This article is a BARF-O-RAMA!

First I read the puff piece this morning about how perfect Zero’s salute to the dead hero at Dover AFB was....

and now this!

(At LEAST this UK writer ended this article correctly: For all Obama’s glamour and sophisticated intellect, he is in danger of being seen as a failing politician. And familiarity with the details of his private life may quickly turn to contempt.)

Only it is not “may quickly turn to contempt” but
“HAS ALREADY TURNED TO CONTEMPT”.

Beneath contempt actually.

(P.S. I simply do not remember the beautiful, lovely, and gracious Laura Bush ever being on the cover of Glamour Magazine - thank you, Mrs. Bush nor do I recall the obviously-in-love-with-each-other President and First Lady EVER discussing their marriage in these terms.

Further - the writer implies that Americans (at least Democrats) wanted a First lady more like Hillary Clinton - involved in the political decisions being made.

WHAT A LIE - Most Americans were overwhelmingly positive about Laura Bush, especially as a relief from “stand by your man” co president Clinton!

The guy is screwed up ...Abandoned or used by every male figure he ever knew, whoring mother who seemed anxious to abandon him to any opportunity for self satisfaction, chip on his shoulder, narcissist, craving attention and approval ... no wouldn’t surprise me either.

Sally Quinn, a veteran Washington style-watcher... suggest[ed] that the first lady had been badly advised.

“I’m not sure if I had been her adviser I would have said for her to do the Glamour cover because it might begin to trivialise her and what her role is,” she said.

Duh, Sally, d'ya think?

Richard Wolffe, a Newsweek journalist, has already described in his book on Obama’s rise how Michelle at one point became “angry at [Barack’s] selfishness and careerism; he thought she was cold and ungrateful”.

Duh, Richard and Barack, d'ya think?

Currently condemned to a photogenic but stultifying life as chief fashion plate and do-gooder, Michelle is widely assumed in Washington to be desperate to sink her teeth into a meaty political issue.

Yet she protested, a little too fiercely some thought, that she was “so not interested in a lot of the hard decisions that he’s making ... I have never in my life ever wanted to sit on the policy side of this thing”.

Many Democrats who supported Hillary Clinton, now Obama’s secretary of state, have noted that Michelle seems closer to Laura Bush, wife of George W, in choosing a non-political role.

************ But don’t expect Leno to ask Mrs. Obama about her reported meddling in personnel decisions at the scandal-plagued Americorps. Obama’s Americorps scandal — and the First Lady’s meddling

Who’s looking out for you now? Cronies, that’s who.

More on the First Lady’s role in installing Norris and intervening to help pick the next Americorps CEO:

First Lady Michelle Obama’s chief of staff, Jackie Norris, is being sent to the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) in what is both a White House shake-up and an indication of the first lady’s sway over the corporation that oversees AmeriCorps, Serve and Learn and the Senior Corps.
