Gingrich endorses Hoffman Posted: October 31st, 2009 01:04 PM ET

From CNN Political Editor Mark Preston

WASHINGTON (CNN)– Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who came under fire from some conservatives for endorsing Dede Scozzafava in next week's special Congressional election in New York, is now backing Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Gingrich made the announcement via Twitter shortly after the Republican Party nominee Scozzafava announced she was releasing supporters from their commitment to back her.

"Scozzafava dropping out leaves hoffman as only anti-tax anti-pelosi vote in ny 23 Every voter opposed to tax increases support doug hoffman," Gingrich wrote on Twitter. (Tweet shown as it appeared)

IMO Word or mouth is much more successful than any mailed out material. Maybe some of your friends can join you in reaching out to others. Who are encourage to reach out to others etc.

Hey Newt twit - I see you are following Sarah’s lead. She was the first to the party, you showed up too late and NO ONE answered the door. Are you enjoying the dust in your face from Sarah’s red high heels!

What bothers me, though, is that because Scuzzifava pulled out of the race so late, you've got those who will blindly vote “R” still but even worse you've got the absentee ballots that went out about 3 weeks ago. The republican party in this county (Oswego), at least, is very big on pushing the absentee vote and it has always payed off in big ways, some times even deciding elections, for the republican candidate. These people now have no chance to change their vote and it could cost Hoffman big time.

“Too late Newt. You had a clear choice, and you made the wrong one.”

I agree! And I am sure the RNC got lots of “telling off” for backing the ACORN/ProChoice/Stimulus loving Republican they were backing.

Just this morning I got a call from them asking for a donation. Told them no money from me when I see them back the likes of Dede Scozzafava over Doug Hoffman, a real conservative!

Just maybe the RNC will finally get it when Hoffman wins in New York, Christie wins in New Jersey, and McDonnell wins in Virginia that the conservative base is going to turn the tide and get rid of RINO’s as time goes on.

So much for “the establishment knows what’s best”.

Newt now knows that WE THE POPLE know a little something too.

Hopefully Newt will come to his senses about running for President,

His ONLY chance is on the Democrat ticket. Hey Newt, pick up line one - Spector is calling.

That is big problem. The word needs to get out that she has essentially dropped out of the race.. Foot solider time.

What did Dan Quayle ever do wrong, besides misspelling potato? He DOES NOT belong with the losers in your list.

If anything, he was “Sarah Palin-ed” 20 years prior.

Fun to read all these comments!
Guess he may figure out that the answer isn’t “party first”.
Hope he doesn’t waste his time and other people’s money trying to run for President.

I wish that Scozzy had not effectively dropped out of this race. This is the first that I heard it, and I hope that it doesn’t get out too far. There are far too many liberals who see Scozzy as a viable alternative to the Democrat (which is now a bad word here among many in Central NY) but who will NOT vote for someone conservative.

I consider this to throw this race into more doubt now than if Scozzy had remained as the GOP candidate.

Those of you who don’t have any idea of the dynamics of the Conservative/Republican/Democrat/Liberal party structure in NY State need to just keep your thoughts to yourselves. The organization and the way things work here is not anything like most of the country.

I thank Mr.Newt for his endorsement, but wish (and hope later on) that he will be able to say what led him to believe that Scozzy was a good choice for Republicans in the US. She clearly does not represent what he believes. I continue to maintain that he must have been misled about the way she was selected, and the dynamics of elections in Central NY state.

LOL. Newts has a sense of humor even if his sense of honor is a bit askew at times.

Newt's a day late and a dollar short.

To make up for this fiasco, the Republican Party needs to station volunteers at each poll, with a sign saying Dede has pulled out, and to vote for the Conservative instead.
