Gingrich endorses Hoffman Posted: October 31st, 2009 01:04 PM ET
From CNN Political Editor Mark Preston
WASHINGTON (CNN) Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who came under fire from some conservatives for endorsing Dede Scozzafava in next week's special Congressional election in New York, is now backing Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.
Gingrich made the announcement via Twitter shortly after the Republican Party nominee Scozzafava announced she was releasing supporters from their commitment to back her.
"Scozzafava dropping out leaves hoffman as only anti-tax anti-pelosi vote in ny 23 Every voter opposed to tax increases support doug hoffman," Gingrich wrote on Twitter. (Tweet shown as it appeared)

Newt was a great teacher of history and conservative philosophy. One of the greatest assets for conservatives.
What happened? Why flush principles so easily? Parading with Pelosi in favor of global warming, fighting like hell to elect a leftist as a republican?
He’s lost his mind or principles. And my trust.
I can’t see him as a leader for conservatism anymore.
He is one of the people undermining the good fight, and a serious threat to it now.
Do you think we can get Bob Dole to run again in 2012? That would be a slam dunk! :)
Fredo Gingrich
You dead to me Newt. :)
LOL! Maybe Dole and Newt can do dueling Viagra commercials instead...
I look at it this way.
The GOP endorsement wasn’t needed. And the realization of that was something the GOP had to minimize to any extent that it could.
Hoffman was going to win.
Can you imagine what that would have said about the GOP?
It would have said that at least in this district, the GOP didn’t even have enough power to win over an also ran party.
In this district the GOP would have come in second, or heaven forbid, third.
The GOP is dying. It’s leadership can’t figure out why.
I’ve said this many times.
If people want to vote for liberalism, they’ll vote for the Democrat. They’re not going to vote for a guy who is a Republican pretending to be a Democrat.
You’ll find some exceptions to that. They’re called RINOs, but they are only a small segment of the overall body of Congress.
The GOP leadership thinks they’ll take over power with them as their core. I guess they think there’s a larger body of RINOs in this nation than there are Conservatives.
Go figure...
So goes the party, and it’s dismal future.
We don’t need the endorsement of this party any longer.
;-)
I would have agreed with Newt if Dede had won the nomination in a primary election where all registered Republicans were allowed to vote. That is called democracy.
DeDe was selected by the party hacks not by rank and file Republicans.
Somehow, Newt got confused on this one. When will Huckabee and Romney check in on this one?
"Too late Newt. You had a clear choice, and you made the wrong one."
Another "OPPORTUNIST" bites the dust!
Newt, Take your snake oil somewhere else.
It is apparent you are just another sleazy OPPORTUNIST!
:-)
HAHAHAHAHHAA!
"MR. IRRELEVANT"
Nice!
:-)
She’s tainted. if I was Hoffman, I wouldn’t want her “help”.
>> We dont need the endorsement of this party any longer.
I’m unambiguous about my sentiment towards the GOP. They coddled our political adversaries, engage in pointless feelgood ‘political correctness’, and participated in the destruction of the economy. They’re assholes for it.
I still think, however, it’s not a complete loss, and with a change in leadership, it can fully participate in the pursuit towards the Liberties we once had.
Gingrich and Steele did the right thing by steering the sinking vessel back towards home. I don’t care what their motives are - I care they don’t make the situation worse.
Shouldn't that be "Oh Newtered One"?
Don’t forget cute kids.
Kicking and screaming, but he did the right thing. I will never understand Newt. He says some good things, obviously has a great background in history and conservative philosophy...but then he does the most politically idiotic things that seem as if they are virtually designed to make his good points worthless. He did the same thing way back when, too - great thoughts well expressed, coupled with self-defeating action.
Eric, Newt endorsing is not good. He will muscle to the cameras and take credit for the GOP. Others of conviction stepped out fully risking the MSM ridicule. Newt needs to be reminded, and often, that his opinion doesn’t carry The weight it did the other day. He has been in the Belchway too long.
He chose..........pooorly.
Does the phrase “A day late and a dollar short” mean anything to you Newt? It should.
Too late from Newt.
Newt, you just entered the realm of irrelevancy.
