Gingrich endorses Hoffman Posted: October 31st, 2009 01:04 PM ET

From CNN Political Editor Mark Preston

WASHINGTON (CNN)– Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who came under fire from some conservatives for endorsing Dede Scozzafava in next week's special Congressional election in New York, is now backing Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Gingrich made the announcement via Twitter shortly after the Republican Party nominee Scozzafava announced she was releasing supporters from their commitment to back her.

"Scozzafava dropping out leaves hoffman as only anti-tax anti-pelosi vote in ny 23 Every voter opposed to tax increases support doug hoffman," Gingrich wrote on Twitter. (Tweet shown as it appeared)

“Their candidate has already been defeated by an independent, by dropping out she conceded defeat. It is too late for the RINO POS to save it now.”

Certainly for us that’s true, but overall, they did cut their losses (versus an outright romp on election night). Whether they can still keep this facade up in the future remains to be seen.

Lucky someone reads his tweets. I wonder who would have shown up if he’d called a press conference to make the same announcement.

“good speaker without a teleprompter
That’s how you beat 0bama because that is how he beat old man McCain “

You can’t be saying that Obama is a good speaker without his Telemprompter, can you?

I got a nickname for him now...

"Bandwagon"Newt.. I was against him before I was for him.

In the second world war, he would have been the French sympathizer who saw the naval armada off of Normandy and joined the resistance... hahahahahaha...

Nice timing Newt.

Why don't you have a little confab with Pelosi about the environment and STFU.

“The revolution is gathering strength. “

Yes it is! Woohoo!

Now it’s time to send Hoffman some more contributions since we KNOW the Obamunists have their heavy hitters and their Acorn SIEU Thugs at work.

Must have typed it on his hand-held. I’m sure he meant”

“leaves Hoffman as THE only anti-tax, anti-Pelosi vote in NY23”

Nonetheless, he swallowed his pride, and made the endorsement. That’s good.

Right. We need someone who speaks well and without the teleprompter crutch. Then we start ridiculing this 0bama mope whenever he wheels his out

Young and vigorous candidate will beat 0bama
No ragged old party hacks like when we ran Bob Dole or McCain. I respect them but they cannot beat the young candidates the Democrats put up

I’ll get reamed for this, but....

First I am also VERY disappointed with Newt on this. And not only on this, but also on his nonsense with Pelosi on Global Warming. I think what he did on NYC23 was a tactical makee, but more importantly, an error on principle.

Having said that, I am surprised at how little respect Newt gets here. Fewer than I would think seem to really appreciate the enormity of what he accomplished in the 90’s and the odds against which he brought the GOP and, if not our brand of conservatism, something that wasn’t leftism, to power.

I think Newt is a historical and important figure in the conservative movement, frankly, only somewhat less important than Reagan. And while I wouldn’t expect that to get him a pass on his apostacies, I would have thought it would entitle him to a bit more respect in opposition.

Oh well...flame away.

Hank

Newt is dead to me. Sorry, but if he didn’t have the tools to call this one right, what good is he.

This wasn’t some radical left wing area where a Conservative couldn’t get elected. They’ve had Republican reps for a long time up there.

So what does Newt do? He proposes we vote for a Republican(D).

He’s doing the shuck and jive for leftists. UNACCEPTABLE!

Newt, you've shown your true colors. You are NOT a PRINCIPLED CONSERVATIVE.
You are just a party shill, and are a contributor to the demise of the GOP.

Understand, I’m not rewarding Newt.

The GOP endorsement is very important at this point in the pragmatic sense. From the philosophical standpoint, the GOP can go eat dirt.
