SHOCK! Epidemic of pneumonic plague in Ukraine? (updated at 05:39 pm) MIGnews.com.ua
Ministry of Health has not established the exact diagnosis of the epidemic disease in the western regions of Ukraine. Health Minister Vasyl Knyazevich has given information about spread of diseases in the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Regions today at the meeting of Cabinet of Ministers.
According to the Minister, the World Health Organization is ready to render assistance to Ukrainian experts and the Ministry of Health in order to establish the cause of death and development of disease flu in the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Regions.
"We are working at receiving the vaccine against influenza A (H1N1) also", - said Vasily Knyazevich and asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to render assistance.
Answering question of Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko about the definition of the specific nature of the disease, the head of the Ministry of Health said: "The nature of infections is viral one. But at the moment it is not defined, is it the Californian influenza H1N1, or it is our seasonal influenza. To date, there is no precise diagnosis."

According to the Minister of Health, to date, 12 adults have died in the Ternopil Region. "There are problems, people of working age 20-45 years are sick, there is a problem with pregnant women (we have the death in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil Regions), 17 patients remain in the grave condition, 4 of them have artificial pulmonary ventilation", - said Vasily Knyazevych.

Thanks , Scythian what you posted is very important details .
So , are you saying not to take Vitamin C for flu symptoms ?
You need to eat lemons , and would drinking lemonade help ?
I heard of PURE drinking cranberry juice for influenza too .
When I had it two weeks ago, I was drinking lemonade - like by the quart - two or three times a day.
ping ...
thanks , I appreciate the information .
Thanks for the ping.
“Tymoshenko said the government would also be banning all public gatherings, every concert and every cinema showing for three weeks.
The government will also introduce special regimes to limit the movement of Ukraines citizens from one region to another for non-urgent purposes, she said.”
******
Boy, I’m just glad I live in the U.S. of A. where nothing like this could ever happen. /s
Thanks for the ping.
Can I panic now?
” Then it isn’t pneumonic plague. That disease is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. “
Yeah - I got that about three paragraphs into the article... (That’s why I used H1N1 as a keyword...)
The ‘English as a Second Language’ prose in the article takes a little bit of creative interpretation, but there was enough ‘oddness’ to the details (Like H1N1, but not like H1N1) that I thought it was significant enough to post.... ;)
Great, just effing great. One more brick in the wall. Just what we effing need right now, a serious death threat plague. I wonder if our soft tyrannical dictator can keep us safe? Please help us Dear One. Hear our cries. Save us Dear One Wipe the tears from our eyes.

NEWS FLASH! Highest epidemic of swine flu in Ukraine!
MIGnews.com.ua
Health Minister Vasyl Knyazevych reported that 31 samples were taken from sick people in order to determine whether they fall under the diagnosis of swine flu, of which 11 cases have been confirmed. “It is the interpretation of the result,” - he said, adding that on 29 October in Ukraine, 951 people were hospitalized with acute respiratory infections and influenza. As for 30 cases of death, recorded from 19 to 29 October, he reported that the sample was taken only in one case, and the diagnosis was confirmed (A (H1N1)).

Thank you for all of your additions and updates to the thread....
If this is H1N1, there are some indicators - epidemiological and symptomatic - that this just might be the mutated, more virulent (new and improved?) variant that the CDC has been afraid of....
The situation bears watching.....
Yeah, and I felt a little bad pointing it out, even. I mean, it is technically both a lung disease and arguably a plague. A BTT for the afternoon crew.
The other posters at PFI agree with you .

This is really odd. It may not be influenza at all, but another disease entirely, happening simultaneously with Swine flu. The most likely, off the top of my head, would be a pneumonic virus. This could include SARS, or perhaps a more virulent parainfluenza virus.
Ping to Scythian’s post ....
Very bad indeed.

WHO says it’s sending team to Ukraine to probe reports of serious H1N1 activity
(CP) 47 minutes ago
GENEVA The World Health Organization is sending a team of experts to Ukraine to look into reports of severe H1N1 disease there, a spokesperson for the global health agency said Friday.
Gregory Hartl said the team was being pulled together by the WHO’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network, which goes by the acronym GOARN.
The team will travel early next week to the eastern European country, which has closed schools and banned public meetings in response to a spike in cases of acute respiratory illness believed to be H1N1.
“This is something that certainly needs investigating,” Hartl said from Geneva.
He said the government of Ukraine is being forthcoming with information on the outbreak, which is said to centre on three regions in the western part of the country.
The country, which is in the midst of an election campaign, has reportedly imposed strict measures to slow the spread of the virus.
According to the BBC, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said there would also be restrictions on what she called non-urgent travel between different parts of Ukraine.
Reports on the number of deaths vary, some suggesting Tymoshenko had said only one person has died of the virus but her rival, President Viktor Yushchenko, has said 11 Ukrainians have died so far.

WHO Team to Investigate Ukraine H1N1 Outbreaks
Recombinomics Commentary 23:43
October 30, 2009
Gregory Hartl said the team was being pulled together by the WHO’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network, which goes by the acronym GOARN.
The team will travel early next week to the eastern European country, which has closed schools and banned public meetings in response to a spike in cases of acute respiratory illness believed to be H1N1.
“This is something that certainly needs investigating,” Hartl said from Geneva.
He said the government of Ukraine is being forthcoming with information on the outbreak, which is said to centre on three regions in the western part of the country.
The above comments describe a WHO investigational team being formed in response to the outbreak in Ukraine (see map). Although the story is evolving, some reports describe a dramatic spread of the virus to 80,000 people, with as many as 100 fatalities. The early reports describing 100 fatalities mentioned 10,000 infections, which would create an alarming case fatality rate of 1%. The newer cases would lower the rate, assuming the most recent cases don’t follow the pattern described in the first 10,000 cases.
Media reports included descriptions of blood filled lungs, raising visions of the 1918 pandemic, which also involved swine H1N1 that jumped to humans and was efficiently transmitted. Samples have already been sent to London for analysis, and immediate release of initial sequence data would be useful.
Small changes can have dramatic effects when viruses jump species, and the rapid spread of the H1N1 in western Ukraine is clearly cause for concern.
