ISLAMABAD A strong earthquake hit Afghanistan's Hindu Kush mountains Thursday, shaking large areas of the country and neighboring Pakistan, officials said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake, which struck at 10:14 p.m. (1744 GMT) and was centered in a remote part of the Hindu Kush mountains, about 160 miles (250 kilometers) north of Kabul. Given the area's isolation it could take many hours for such reports to emerge.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.0, though Pakistani officials said it was 6.1.
Tremors were felt in Kabul, in Pakistan's northwest and in its capital, Islamabad, causing some buildings to shake.

actually, it’s just normal tectonic activity. :-)

Did anyone report a bright blinding flash about that time?
GMTA. The same thought and you beat me to it.
Thanks for the Ping, Cindy.

You’re welcome bd476.
I suspect the Afghanis consider earthquakes a sign from Allah that they are doing well, as the quake was obviously meant for the Infidels.
Actually it's moderate tectonic activity, and the moderate Taliban consider that normal...
It's a Ground Shaking Quagmire! Let's get our guys out of there before another one hits...
Very deep in an area known to be very active. Problem is the buildings are constructed to poorly that just about any quake will cause problems.
Thanks Godzilla for looking at it.
I appreciate it.
Yes, I think we have the highest building regulations in the here in the USA.
Living in Calif for so long...that was a good thing.
