We need to have a bigger quota for Latin Americans (and a smaller one for Muslims, although just the reverse is happening) so that more can come in legally. That said, if we’re going to do legalization of people already here (”amnesty”), we have to have some standards.

I was very sorry that people here opposed the Bush plan so much, because it would have been possible to work with his plan and we could have demanded things from it. The plan favored and in fact mandated the learning of English and US civics, background checks to make sure we weren’t getting druggies or criminals, verifiable ID for immigrants, etc.

I knew this was the best we were going to get. I knew that when the Dems got in, they were going to put in a plan that required nothing and was just aimed at legalizing people they thought would vote for them. In fact, I bet when the final plan comes out, Latin Americans (many of whom are very entrepreneurial and quite conservative) will be at the bottom of the list and it will be mostly people from Muslim countries in Africa and the ME who will be allowed in legally.

Under this plan, who would be doing the background checks? Would it be done by our inefficient and understaffed federal government? Or in the case of background checks on Mexican illegal aliens, would it be done by the corrupt Mexican government who would tell us anything we'd want to hear in order to keep us from sending back any of their citizens who are illegally in the United States?

I think we need to have a bigger quota for quality people. I'd measure that by level of education, net worth, lack of a criminal record, an ability to speak English, and a firm desire and committment to become an American, not necessarily in that order.

What we don't need are parasites who come here to take all they can, who breed like rabbits and who break the laws. Regardless of native country.

I want the parasites, and their anchor babies if they have any, deported forthwith.

Disagree. And amnesty in any form is hogwash, as in no matter how many layers of lipstick, it is still a PIG. I live in California, have all of my life, and the Mexicans-Guatemalans-Salvadorans-Nicaraguans are pulling us down to 3rd world level... that includes corruption and crime, not to mention they have bankrupted the state. NO THANK YOU.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! If you believe that I’ve got a bridge to sell you in NY. Bush is a globalist who believed in amnesty. Along with amnesty allows their “relatives” to come here. Can we say another 75-100 million more third worlders.

“We need to have a bigger quota for Latin Americans”

They already have the largest quota.

We don’t need a bigger one and no one has a RIGHT to come.
