WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama says only once since Jan. 20 has White House life annoyed him.
It was the Saturday in May when, trying to be a good husband, he kept a campaign promise to take his wife, Michelle, to New York after the election for one of their "date nights" - dinner and a Broadway play.
Conservative commentators and Republican officials criticized him for doing so.
"People made it into a political issue," Obama told The New York Times Magazine for an article about the Obamas' marriage, appearing in the Nov. 1 issue. The article was posted on the Times' Web site on Wednesday.
"If I weren't president, I would be happy to catch the shuttle with my wife to take her to a Broadway show, as I had promised her during the campaign, and there would be no fuss and no muss and no photographers," he said. "That would please me greatly."
Presidents, however, don't travel by any means other than secure government aircraft or vehicles.
Obama added: "The notion that I just couldn't take my wife out on a date without it being a political issue was not something I was happy with."
The article explores the effects of the presidency on the couple's 17-year union, and revisits well-documented tension between them in earlier years as Obama pursued his political career in Illinois, leaving Mrs. Obama largely home alone in Chicago with their daughters.

This reminds me back when Newt became the Speaker of the House and the Clintonids made him ride back where the luggage gets pack and Newt spoke publicly about it. The Jon Stewart media and all the liberal clones jeered and sneered at Newt crying over where he got stashed on public transportation.
Liberals are people who never grow up they are always picking their noses and well never-mind.
"Is Michelle Obama a Drunk? "
The Enquirer seems to think so.
And you know? The only consistently reliable sources for information anymore seems to be the Canada Free Press, Pravda and the Enquirer.
They report, we decide my friend. LOL
"I don't know about her---but Ohaha and his minions are clearly on mood-alerting substances."
Sure would explain an awful lot 'bout that gaggle, wouldn't it.
Only once?
Oh please----this is another WH-manipulated distraction to keep Americans off-kilter about the REAL annoyances WE have to deal with since he took office.
His trashing the Constitution, turning America into a Third World, losing our freedoms, the debt burden, high unemployment, sinking home prices, watching Ohaha handout our money to cruds like ACORN. The vision of Chicago mobsters like Rahm and Axelrod sitting in our WH.
Those are real annoyances.
He could have quietly kept his “date” promise as president-elect. He is the one who went looking for a bump with a Camelot style stunt.
Not a very happy couple....
As adults, everything to them is a "performance," to hear the applause, to feed their egos.
This confession indicates Ohaha had a need to be universally applauded for his "date night" exercise.
According to him, all America should have been enthralled over this.
Too bad.
If he weren’t pres. that would please me greatly also.
What a whiner! If his little date night hadn’t of been at taxpayer expense I wouldn’t have cared where he took Aunt Esther.
Aw, look at the pic of the two love birds in post #1. Isn’t that sweet? They must have had a great time in the city.
Well, son, it's not like you didn't know that was part of the job. Everything a president does in public is political. The other 40+ presidents managed. Why can't you. Along with the perks come some poop. Learn to live with it. No, don't. It is more fun watching you complain about everything.
P*ss on this illegal, noncitizen impostor-in-chief and the Satan scum that maneuvered him into office.
“If I weren’t president, I would be happy to catch the shuttle with my wife to take her to a Broadway show, as I had promised her during the campaign, and there would be no fuss and no muss and no photographers,” he said. “That would please me greatly.”
...What he doesn’t get, is that if he were a private citizen, WE wouldn’t have to pick up the tab. Since WE paid for this, WE have every right to criticize it. Maybe he can us his Nobel Peace Prize money to pay back the American people for “date night”, then WE wouldnt have to point out the abuse of taxpayer funds. We could just concentrate on Congress’ abuses!
Are you friggin’ kidding me?
We are at war and the economy is in the tank, and this bozo whines about date night and FOX news.
Somethin’ ain’t right.
I am rooting for First Yeti.
What HE does doesn't count. It's only what WE do that is subject to moral judgment.
you just described my 40 year old nephew to a T.
Our first *welfare* presidency.
Party like it’s 2008.
Exactly.
