Why a Harmer Win Would Be Huge
American Thinker ^ | October 28, 2009 | Bruce Walker

David Harmer is trying to do in California what Doug Hoffman is trying to do in New York: win a seat in the House of Representatives which otherwise would be won by a liberal in a special election. Ellen Tauscher, who represented the 10th Congressional District of California since 1996, has resigned her seat in Congress to be an undersecretary in the Obama Administration. The special election on November 3, 2009 will determine who replaces her.

<snip> What makes this all the more galling is that David Harmer has at least as good a chance of winning in California as Scozzafava does in New York. Harmer is running more or less head-to-head against the Democrat candidate, Lieutenant Governor Garamendi, while Scozzafava has proven so unpalatable to conservatives that she is running in a tight three-way race, with major Republican leaders deserting her for Hoffman in droves.

<snip>

The California 10th Congressional District is left-leaning, but it is hardly unwinnable for Republicans under the right circumstances. So are the circumstances right for David Harmer in 2009? What is the mood of California voters right now? Well, five months ago, Californians gave all establishment politicians a dramatic, almost unprecedented thumping. Six different ballot measures were put before the people. Five of the six were supported by the Democrat establishment in Sacramento, and the sixth was supported by the people of California.

What happened? Each measure supported by state Democrat leaders like Lieutenant Governor Garamendi suffered a crushing defeat. Constituents in California Congressional District 10 joined with other Californians in overwhelmingly rejecting what Democrats like Garamendi were selling. <snip>

A bit more from the article:

<snip> Someone with a keen political nose might sense that voters in District 10 were ready for some real change, like electing a strong fiscal conservative. Polling data, which shows the race in District 10 as close with lots of undecided voters, supports that theory. Throw into this scenario the generally-accepted fact that conservative voters are much more motivated than liberal voters now, and it sure looks like David Harmer could win.

What would a Harmer victory do? Victory in Nancy Pelosi's backyard by a conservative Republican strongly opposed to Obamacare in a district held for a long time by liberal Democrats would almost certainly give dozens of House Democrats a case of cold feet on Obamacare. How could Pelosi convince congressmen in Virginia, Colorado, and Texas to support Obamacare when even her neighboring congressional districts in northern California are against it?
Everything I am reading says this race in California’s 10th district is winnable for Harmer, and would flip a seat from a Democrat to a Republican.

Add to that the message coming from a district across the bay from Pelosi’s district, and you have even more reason that the GOP should be fighting seriously for this district.

Yet the NRCC ignores David Harmer while they pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a losing candidate in upstate New York. This is almost criminal fraud on the part of the NRCC.

I support David Harmer for California’s 10th Congressional District (donations). He is a conservative candidate who has been a fellow at the Heritage Foundation and the Cato institute. He is committed to controlling spending, promoting economic growth, and free market solutions to todays problems.

I am also contacting the NRCC to ask why they are supporting Scozzafava in the race in upstate New York, and why they are ignoring David Harmer in this California’s 10th district. Here are the numbers if anyone else wants to call:

Info from the NRCC "contact us" web page:

Address:

Washington, DC 20003

General Email:

Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

...and NRCC money that could be going to help Harmer is going instead to attack Hoffman.

The NRCC is governed by its chairman, U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (TX-32), and an executive committee composed of Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Question: Who is Sessions' Democrat opponent in the next race? I want to send him a check.

Well, I would rather see a conservative challenger in the primaries. There are actually at least 17 Scozzafava supporters in the House that should all be targeted for elimination in 2010. Though Pete Sessions of Texas is probably the one most responsible for the NRCC supporting Scozzafava so heavily.

As for the 2010 race in the 32nd district of Texas, there is only one announced candidate other than Sessions, the incumbent. He is a Democrat named Grier Raggio. The DUmmies have been spreading the word about him, and he has had some fund raising success. Actually, the Dems think Texas is a big opportunity for them in 2010.

I’ve sent them an email to find out why my browser is telling me that the SSL cert doesn’t apply to this host, and the domain is registered in Australia.

I am now 0 for 5 with conservatives’ web sites. We have got to get our act together.

For some reason Conservatives seem to be high-tech impaired. They can't design or implement effective websites. The left produces GREAT websites filled with political sewage.

If we want to get the word out in this day and age - and attract similar minded voters - we need good technical and production values, folks. We really do. :0/

Are there any more special elections to watch out for on election night? Will there be a special election night thread?

I am not aware of any other Congressional seats. November 3 is an election day for many cities, towns and some states. And there are the two congressional seats vacated by Obama appointees, the NY-23 race and the CA-10 race. Plus a few governors seats up for grabs.

I though NY-23 was the only congressional seat, but a few FReepers told me about this race out in California. I have checked, and I am pretty sure there are no other congressional seats up for election in 2009.

And I expect there will be a few "live threads" for discussion on November 3rd.

The NRCC is ignoring Harmer and funnelling their donors' money into attacking NY conservative Hoffman, instead. Posting this to all pertinent threads, so these folks can no longer hide behind a faceless organization while they do their dirty work.

With that, I give you:

Rep. John Carter, TX (in pic, far left)

Rep. Eric Cantor, VA (third from left)

Rep. John Boehner, OH (fourth from left)

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, WA

Rep. Pete Sessions, TX (sixth from left)

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, MI (not pictured)

Note: Rep. Mike Pence, second from left, strenuously objected to Scozzafava, and refused to endorse her or send her money. In retaliation, pro-leftist house members like those above anonymously told reporters that Pence isn't supporting Dede because he's anti-woman.

No, but I think there is a “Marriage Amendment” question on the ballots in both Maine and Washington, State.

I would also be inclined to support these as well.
