Arnold Schwarznegger sticks it to his Legislature while vetoing AB1776
gov.ca.gov, the web site of the California governor ^ | 10/12/2009 | Arnold Schwarznegger

An image of the bill's veto message, with some interpretive graphics added:

A link to this pdf on Schwarznegger's official web site can be found here, in the "Bills Vetoed" section. It's the real deal.

OK, mods cut me some slack on this one. Take a hard look at it, it appears to be as real as the day is long, else I wouldn't have posted it.

If anyone thinks it’s childish, we can simply point out Obama’s Hillary flip-off; he very deliberately scratched his cheek with his extended middle finger, and everyone understood very clearly.

So we’ll see how they treat this in view of that..

Well, I actually followed the link to the real letter on his site and while the content is real I think somebody else lined up the letters.

nice sentiment though

Arnold has plausible deniability here. Go to http://gov.ca.gov/press-release/13575/ and scroll down to AB1176. Then click on the See attached veto message link and you'll indeed find the veto message with the letters lined up as posted above.

But if you instead click on the AB1176 link, and then scroll down to the bottom of that page and click on the Veto Message, you'll see the same wording with different formatting which obscures the hidden meaning.

So yeah, either Arnold or one of his staff members played with the formatting to make it come out just so. But they can claim that it was purely coincidental, and point to the other version as evidence to that effect.

I'll be curious to see how long it stays up when word gets out. I took a screen shot just in case, and I suggest others do likewise.

Look again......under “2009 Legislative Bill Update” then “Press Releases” then “Legislative Update 4” then go to the bottom, find AB 1176 and hit “Attached Veto Message.”

The AB1176 link you posted has been reformatted by the legislature. Take a close look at that URL to see the source. The pdf from gov.ca.gov is the real thing from the governor’s office.

“Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, famously told the governor to “kiss my gay ass” at a Democratic fundraiser last month. Two days later, the governor responded in the veto message of one of Ammiano’s bills.

Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear said the hidden message was a “strange coincidence.”

“When you veto so many bills, something like this is bound to happen,” he said with a straight face.

McLear noted the first lines of other veto messages spell out things like “soap,” “poet” and “bad tap.” Presumably that’s not a commentary on any member’s hygiene, literary skill or dancing prowess.”
