Gingrich: 'You can't have a purely right-wing majority' Posted: October 26th, 2009 12:03 PM ET
From CNN Radio's Bob Constantini
WASHINGTON (CNN) Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has taken considerable heat from conservative activists for endorsing Republican Dede Scozzafava over Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in next month's special congressional election in New York.
But Gingrich is defending his approach to re-building the Republican Party. It begins, he said, by accommodating those who might disagree with you.
"Both parties have to recognize, you can create a center-right majority in America, which we did with Reagan in '80 and we did it again with the 'Contract with America' in '94," Gingrich said in an interview with CNN Radio. "You can't have a purely right-wing majority; you can't have a purely left-wing majority."
The former speaker claimed that Democrats are doing their part to help the GOP by promoting a liberal ideology. "Today, the Democrats are moving toward a secular-socialist model that is guaranteed minority in America," he said.

Newt, Dede Whats-her-name is NOT a moderate. She is NOT a pragmatist. She is a liberal!
How do you compromise with evil?
Seriously, the policies of the left have historically led to the biggest human evil events imaginable.
Yawn....Newt is loving this attention, ignore him.
Sub-Driver, have you forgotten what Newt said: “The era of Reagan is over.”

To win elections you have to build coalitions.
But coalitions have to be rooted in principle or they have no purpose, and if you win you haven’t won anything. Especially if you intend to build coalitions, especially if you plan on compromising in order to put a majority together, you have to be clear on principle, and your philosophical compass has to be in very good working order or you will lose your way.
And again, if in building your coalition you’ve compromised away the very thing you were trying to accomplish, then winning wins you nothing at all.
Newt’s talking out of both sides of his mouth here and doesn’t deserve the attention of the FreeRepublic audience. He deserves our scorn and repudiation! Newt’s dead to me.
Newt is a fraud
NEWT! WHAT WOULD RONALD REAGAN DO?
Newt Stop being a MORON.
Dede needs to step aside, not Hoffman.
Do you people even look at the data? Do you even bother reading the polls? This is a safe GOP seat. It has been in GOP hands since the Civil War.
A solidly Democrat candidate can only poll 36% in this district. Meanwhile a solidly Conservative grass roots level 3rd party challenger draws more voters then the liberal GOPer you picked. And you want the guy with the best shot at winning to quit?
Run Hoffman as an R and you carry this district with at least 52% of the vote if not more.
This is not a swing distinct, the only reason to run Dede is crony politics.
NOW instead of doubling down on your error, grow up, admit you made a mistake and get out of the way.
Go suck an egg Newt.
At least Newt is up front with his delusions.
So what are you saying Newt?
You can’t adhere to the U.S. Constitution?
You can’t support a strong military?
You can’t advocate for smaller government?
You can’t recognize and avoid Communism/Marxism/Fascism?
You can’t advocate for rolling back over-taxation?
You can’t advocate your nation enforce the laws on it’s books?
You can’t allow Christians to even mention God in schools, but can teach the tenets of Islam and role play?
If this is the radical right wing Conservatism you can’t get behind, then F U N G.
As far as I am concerned, this isn’t just bedrock Conservatism, it’s bedrock Citizenship 101. If you don’t believe in this stuff, you just don’t belong in this nation period, much less it’s government, because you don’t have a single clue.
Newt talks of a purely right wing majority as if it would somehow be a very radical situation.
I look at it as core citizenship values. What is radical about loving our freedom, our nation, and our God?
Newt, you’ve just plain lost it.
cast him aside like the tool he is and find a candidate that supports conservative ideals
Screw you, Newt. The GOP lost us a long time ago. The sooner the GOPDNC go out of business the better.
The whole left-right spectrum thing is a fraud. The scale SHOULD be a horizontal line with “0%” government (anarchy) on one end and “100%” government (TOTAL GOVERNMENT OR TYRANNY) at the other. The Founders HOPED to keep government around the “GOLDEN MEAN” of 20 to 30%. We are now around 75% headed for 100%.
Sure wish Gingrich would sit down and shut up. He is more concerned that a candidate have an “R” after his name than what that candidate believes or understands about the Constitution.
Gingrich seems to suffer from the very malady Washington had in mind when he declared “The common and continual mischief of the spirit of Party is sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.”
THere is SO much wrong with what Gingrich said, that it just confirms my feeling that the Old/New Guard of the GOP,
(let’s just call them that, because that’s how they think of themselves), as typified by Gingrich/Steele , who think the same way on this, are totally out of touch with what is really happening among the American people. There were lessons to be learned from this grassroots uprising, starting even as late as the April 15 nationwide rallies, AND THEY DIDN’T LEARN THEM. EXACTLY like the MSM, they DIDN’T LEARN THE LESSONS, but instead just thought long and hard as to how to spin them , or exploit them. One of those lessons is that the ongoing discontent is primarily NOT “Party Partisan” in nature-—overwhelmingly the sentiment among REAL people is that “Republicans suck too!”. These official and semi-official GOP “heads” are ALL about this idiot’s game of keeping the Party strong, as if that is supposed to mean something, or create something substantive for the American people, or do ANYTHING to reverse the million deleterious programs and institutions that are already in place, and that THEY ARE KEEPING IN PLACE EVERY BIT AS STRENUOUSLY AS THE LEFT. The other day I googled “An Open Letter to Michael Steele” and found a bunch of results, dating back to soon after his installation as head of the GOP. It’s time for an OPEN LETTER TO NEWT GINGRICH. Or an OPEN LETTER TO THE SELF APPOINTED HEADS OF THE GOP. THey are all irrelevancies, they don’t know how to win, or why they should want to win, they only know, in Steele’s pathetic and frightening words from just a week or so ago, how to
“compete”. When I read that statement by Steele, it made a clear situation even clearer. THESE PEOPLE ARE DINOSAURS.
They are the primary enablers of the Left, and it is them who helped usher in Barack Obama and his gang of thieves.
And oh yeah, I invite everybody to look up the much-vaunted
“Contract with America” from 15 years ago. Read it carefully——you’ll find that it’s just a whole bunch of timid , pussy-footing NOTHING.
Newt already jumped the shark, now he is jumping JAWS just to back the point that’s he’s a establishment politician.
He’s supporting 5 party bosses over thousands of grassroots local conservatives. He doesn’t get it - that people are through with back room RINO politics.
Newt - you really blew this one and look foolish - you’re OVER.
Damn straight we can... And should.
“The spread of evil is the symptom of a vacuum.
Whenever evil wins, it is only by default:
by the moral failure of those who evade the fact
that there can be no compromise on basic principles.”

Newt the man who had the votes and decided to roll over and play butt buddy for Billy Jeff and Uncle Teddy. Far as I am concerned he should be shamed out of the party
