I'm a huge Beck fan, in fact I'm listening right now here

but something really confuses me. It takes the ability to use real critical thinking to know what Beck (and most of us know about the state of the country and where we are heading). That is, we have the ability to discover the truth no matter how much the media or conventional wisdom try to hide it. Yet on Mormonism, Beck is cleary wrong. Any Christian knows that the book or momonism is severely flawed and that Joseph Smith was no prophet. How can Beck cut through all the chaff of what is going on in our world and come to the truth and yet believe the writings of Joseph Smith? It doesn't make sense? I'm not saying he's up to something secret, not by any means, it's just that he's so right about so many things and completely wrong on the most important thing. Now, he just said on the air that he believes Jesus is the Savior of the world and that he is Mormon.
I also think that because he is Mormon he is not attacked near as much if he was a Evangelical Bible only believer. Anyway, am I nutz or does Beck being a Mormon seem bizarre?
From your post I’m going to guess you are of a protestant/evangelical faith. I may be wrong. But for the moment let’s say I am correct. Now you could also make the same argument about Catholics. “How could any critical thinking person be Catholic?” And yet there are something like a billion Catholics in the world and some of them — probably the same percentage of their members as are found in any other religion or in the general population — are quite intelligent and critical thinking. A billion Catholics, 300 million (actually I’m just guessing at the number here) protestants, 10+ million Mormons, 15-20 million Jews, even 10+ million Jehovah Witnesses — they can’t all be stupid.
But honestly I’ve had the same question as you about some very intelligent people I’ve met. How can someone so smart believe in such and such. :)
If we show any hesitation in accepting Morons into the ranks of conservatives, we have lost our way. Beware of claims there needs to be a litmus test of some kind.
What unites conservatives is the idea that government should be limited and consensual, not that it endorses a religious heritage.
I know people who started out to prove the church wrong and ended up joining and becoming good members.
Religion is what I believe, a sect is what you belong to and .... That fellow over there... He belongs to a cult!
What the hell difference does his religious affiliation have to do with anything? He’s help to uncover the absolute rotting of the U.S. and it’s based on fact. The stench is reaching Heaven. Truth is what matters.
Do you have something personal against Mormons? Would some still whine if Beck were a Catholic? “Oh no! The Pope tells him what to do!!!”
I’m Baptist and I’m an American and also a huge fan of Glenn Beck. I have no problems with him being a Mormon, it’s his choice, we have freedom of religion, he doesn’t use his radio and tv shows to slam it down peoples throats.
Let it go.
The only thing he knows about it is what he has been told... with the exception of reading from it in very small bits and pieces which fails to put it into it’s full context.
A curious observation since Beck can best be charaterized by the way he seeks out and synthesizes information. He delves so deeply into everything he touch upon, yet when it comes to his religion he he doesn't dig deeper than the book jacket. That would seem a bit of a contradiction wouldn't it?

You may want to re-read what I wrote, this is exactly what I'm saying. You, from the outside looking in see their religion as bizarre, however, for those on the inside, it seems perfectly normal and they would have trouble seeing why you view their religion this way.
This isn't a statement on if something is or isn't bizarre, but the perception based on what side you are looking at it from.
Even mainstream Christianity can seem bizarre to someone looking at it from the outside who hasn't been culturally exposed to it all his life.
It is more curious to me that you have chosen today to focus upon Glenn Beck and Mormonism, as if this has only now occurred to you as a valid question, when it is evident that the affirmative action fraud-in-chief crapping in the Ovala Office bathroom has operatives pressing this point in the media, trying to divert attention from the facts Glenn is citing, and trying to divide opposition to the marxists ‘changing’ America. ... Stop drooling over the possibility of starting a religious skirmish at FR, it isn’t becoming for a real freeper.
Who are you to suggest that one faith is more right than another? I am Christian (Catholic). I don't pass judgment on anyone's faith. I certainly reserve the right to criticize the action that an individual's faith might lead them to take as it relates to the innocents of others.
Do you have any idea how crazy non-believers think we are for celebrating the death of our God by eating his body and drinking his blood? Broaden your horizons a little. It's really not that big of deal.
Beck repeats facts on his show and he worships in a believe system. There is a difference between facts and belief in their face value. Also his good looking wife is got him in the church.

It seems to me that those who make such changes toward specific sects do so because they believe God gave them some kind of personal revelation, whereas many who convert to Catholicism do so because they feel rationally compelled.
I’m less concerned about Beck being a conservative Mormon than I am about O’Rielly being a moderate who doesn’t believe there Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation. I’m less concerned about Beck than about conservatives who are atheists.
I’ve met a number of intelligent Mormons. I don’t agree with the Mormon religion, or esteem Mormon literature, but I welcome conservative Mormons to the political party.
agreed. Unfortunately, this forum has some bigots who spread this anti-mormon hatred. They are truly unamerican lowlifes.
I used to work with a Mormon and a 7th day adventist. I was unaware of the Mormon’s beliefs aside from the fact that he bought juice rather than soda. The Adventist beliefs were far more obvious due to his dietary requirements and the fact that he had to work a half shift on Friday to be home before sunset.
Both were good enough guys, they just had somewhat unusal beliefs that were different from what I experienced in my Methodist upbringing. I suppose I could also include Catholics in those with unusual beliefs.
At the end of the day it really doesn’t matter. Good folks are good folks.
One could ask how could odumbo be in the White House and be/is/was a muslim in a Christian nation
